Northern Sweden is a European space region with multiple stakeholders collaborating for the development of space technology and science in space. Luleå University of Technology (LTU) offers space research and teaching, the Institute of Space Physics (IRF) focuses on space plasma research and instrument development, and the EISCAT scientific organization performs radar observations of the upper atmosphere and ionosphere. The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) with its facilities at Esrange provides services and infrastructure for access to space. The Department of Systems and Space Engineering, where the university has gathered research and education in space technology, control engineering, computer and systems science, is now looking for an assistant professor who can contribute to our growing activities. The position is located at the Department of Space Technology in Kiruna. The division offers a number of master's programs in space science and technology. We conduct research in the fields of atmospheric science and space systems. The Space Systems group focuses on payloads, spacecraft and launch vehicles for the exploration of the upper atmosphere, orbits and planets. The research and teaching conducted is supported by high quality infrastructure with state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to rocket propulsion systems, nano satellites, asteroid engineering and space avionics. Subject description Space systems include systems for regulation, control, instrumentation and communication in the upper atmosphere and space. Of particular importance are reliable electronic systems with low power consumption, radiation resistance and their miniaturization. Duties and responsibilities As an Assistant Professor, you will participate in the development of teaching in space systems with a focus on space propulsion systems - in particular solid fuel, hybrid fuel and liquid fuel systems. You will be responsible for administering and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in space systems, supervising master's and doctoral students, and working on grant applications to initiate new project-based research directions related to the research conducted in space systems. You are expected to participate in the group's joint development of the education and research area, as well as collaborate in research groups both within the department, the university and with other universities, colleges and other external parties both nationally and worldwide. Eligibility To meet the requirements for employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer, the applicant must - have a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree Priority should be given to those who have obtained a doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons are defined as leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust, or similar circumstances. Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the post: - scientific excellence - other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (weighted equally): - teaching experience - ability to interact with the surrounding community - ability to inform about research and development work - ability to teach in Swedish and/or English Examination for senior lecturer An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and an appointment until further notice, if he/she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria stated below. The assessment requires that the associate senior lecturer has completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or has acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. During the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer must also have contributed independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, to the university's research and demonstrated good teaching skills.
