We want to be more! The metal research institute Swerim conducts industry-related research and development around metals and their path from raw material to finished product. We are 200 employees in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm. Our vision is a fossil-free and circular industry. Within Swerim, we conduct research in collaboration with world-leading manufacturers and users of high-performance metallic materials, e.g. stainless steel, aluminium, high strength steel and brass. The group "Structures in metallic materials" has a strong focus on characterization of structure down to the atomic level with the aim of increasing the understanding of the connection between manufacturing processes, microstructure and properties in metallic materials. Our group is responsible for metallographic methods with a special focus on electron microscopy and we need to strengthen our team in that area. About the service. A significant part of the work will focus on the use and further development of our analysis instruments, above all SEM and TEM, especially with a focus on work on stainless steels. You will work on both shorter assignments and longer research projects. The work is carried out in close collaboration with industry, other research institutes and universities, both in Sweden and internationally. You will have an independent role while being part of a research team with colleagues from across the company. There are also great opportunities to influence the future direction of the work based on your own drive and initiative. Qualifications You basically have a master of science in engineering or equivalent with a focus on materials. A postgraduate education and a few years of industry experience are meritorious. Below are some additional qualifications that are important for the position: * Experience working with SEM and TEM for metallic materials is a requirement. * Knowledge of other analysis methods, e.g. scattering and imaging with synchrotron light and neutrons, * Overall understanding of the connection between process, structure and properties in metallic materials, especially stainless steel is meritorious.
