Do you speak Meänkieli? Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib and Sami are national minority languages in Sweden. Pupils belonging to one of the national minorities are entitled to mother tongue education, regardless of whether it is a living language in the home or not. This means that the pupil has the right to learn the language even if it is a beginner's language. Umeå municipality WANTS MORE when it comes to the development of teaching in the national minority languages, with a particular focus on preschool and younger children. A longer development work is underway based on finding successful language models for teaching in and on the national minority language for both first and second language learners. We are now looking for people who want to help our pupils continue to develop their language, culture and identity! Type of employment The position is a temporary position starting 2026-01-15 until 2026-06-17. If you have the opportunity for local teaching, we offer full-time employment, if you are interested in remote teaching instead, we offer part-time employment, 50%. Your tasks As a mother tongue teacher, you will teach pupils from preschool class to year 9 together with other mother tongue teachers. Teaching is 120 minutes per week and follows the Swedish curriculum. The role may include the following tasks: Plan, implement and follow up the teaching of the language in question Assessing and grading in accordance with the applicable policy documents Teaching pupils both in class and through distance learning (if necessary) Contribute to the development of teaching based on our key words: language, culture and identity Collaborate with colleagues in our Language Hub for national minority languages Teaching takes place at the pupil's home school in preschool class to year 3. From year 4, teaching may take place at another school - in which case we offer a bus pass if necessary. Distance learning may occur from year 2, especially in outlying areas. Requirements Good knowledge of Meänkieli in speech and writing Passed Swedish B/Swedish 2 Good digital skills Pedagogical training and/or pedagogical experience Valid extract from the criminal record, as a result of the law on suitability control Meritorious Knowledge of additional languages Please attach a CV and, if applicable, a cover letter written in Swedish, as well as a teaching certificate, if applicable.
