Job Description

Would you like to work with advanced automation solutions and be involved every step of the way, from concept to operational facility? We’re now looking for a senior automation engineer who wants to play a key role in our industrial projects and contribute both cutting-edge technical expertise and a strong commitment to the future of industry.

As an Automation Engineer at AFRY, you’ll work on the development, programming, and commissioning of control systems for industrial facilities. You will be responsible for developing robust and efficient automation solutions in PLC and SCADA systems, with a particular focus on platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal and ABB 800xA. The role covers the entire project lifecycle, from preliminary studies and system design to testing, commissioning, and optimization.

You will be a key member of the project team and will work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and customers to ensure that the solutions meet high standards for functionality, quality, and operational reliability. The work may involve both larger development projects and shorter assignments related to troubleshooting, optimization, and modernization of existing facilities.

We are looking for someone who thrives on taking responsibility and driving the work forward. You’ll be expected to provide technical leadership on projects, support colleagues with your experience, and ensure that automation solutions are delivered in accordance with established goals, schedules, and client requirements.

The work is primarily based at AFRY’s office in Kalmar or on-site at the customer’s location, with the possibility of some remote work depending on the nature of the assignment. As part of AFRY, you’ll also have access to a broad network of specialists in automation, electrical design, industrial digitalization, and project management. Certain assignments may require a security clearance, which means that the role may in the future involve work on security-classified projects.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of automation engineer,you need to have a problem-solving approach that allows you to quicklycan identify the causes of problems in complex control systems, analyze various solution options,and choose the most effective path forward. You’re business-minded and organized, which means thatyou plan and organize your work systematicallycode and documentation, and ensure that the project adheres to agreed-upon requirements, timelines, and budgets. The role also requires that you be ambitious—you take responsibilityto drive tasks forward, actively seek improvements, and keepyourself up to date on new technology.Finally, it’s important that you’re a team player who collaboratesclosely with colleagues and customers, shares knowledge, and contributesto a positive work environment.

Requirements 

• Experience in programming within industry (manufacturing/process/food) as well as system commissioning and troubleshooting.&#
• At least a vocational college degree in automation or equivalent experience 
• System knowledge: Siemens TIA Portal and/or ABB 800xA 
• Swedish and English at a professional level, both spoken and written

Desirable Qualifications

• Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems
• System knowledge: ABB SattLine, AVEVA System Platform, etc.
• Knowledge/experience in electrical design
