The Electrical, Automation & Industrial IT section within the Life Science business area is now seeking a DCS Automation Engineer who wants to help shape the future together with us at AFRY.

About the role 

As a DCS Automation Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and commissioning our distributed control systems (DCS) in a high-tech, GMP-regulated production environment within Life Science, where travel may be required. 

You will

As a DCS Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for configuring, programming, and optimizing DCS systems to ensure stable and efficient operation. You will participate in projects from design and engineering through commissioning and validation. You will perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on control systems and process equipment, as well as integrate DCS with PLC, SCADA, and/or MES systems. In addition, you will participate in technical discussions and the design phases of automation solutions, FAT/SAT, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and documentation, as well as contribute to improvement projects and the implementation of new technology, which may involve travel. 

Responsibilities

• Ensure that automation solutions meet high standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance in accordance with GMP and relevant industry standards.
• Serve as a central point of contact between process teams, validation, project teams, external suppliers, and other technical stakeholders.
• Take responsibility for troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of automated production processes.

 Examples of systems and equipment you will work with 

• Siemens PCS 7, ABB 800xA, Emerson DeltaV, or similar DCS platforms 
• Batch control and recipe systems 
• Process equipment for pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., mixers, reactors, filling lines) 
• Industrial networks and communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, OPC) 

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a communicative and team-oriented person who strives to create a positive work environment. With your structured and solution-oriented approach, you tackle challenges with precision and a focus on quality. Your ability to work both independently and as part of a team makes you an invaluable asset in every project.

We believe you have

• Documented experience in industrial automation, including DCS configuration, programming, and commissioning.
• Strong proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
• Experience in the process industry, preferably within Life Sciences or another regulated sector.

It is a plus if you have experience with

• Technical education at the college or university level in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent. 
• Experience with integration between DCS and PLC/SCADA/MES. 
• Experience working with batch control and recipe systems
• Experience with GMP and validation work.
