Job description

As a Senior Design Engineer, you are responsible for the design discipline of construction projects from early stages to final construction documents. The role involves clear technical, financial and quality responsibilities, with a particular focus on static calculations, dimensioning and selection of load-bearing systems.

You work closely with clients, architects and other disciplines and act as the main technical contact in the projects. A normal working week consists of technical calculation work, coordination and design meetings, supervision of designers and review and quality assurance of documents.

The projects vary in size and complexity and may include safety-classified assignments. The role may eventually develop towards greater assignment responsibility, specialist roles in advanced statics or broader technical leadership within AFRY.

The location for the role is Östersund or Örnsköldsvik.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of lead designer, you have a solid technical foundation and many years of experience in building construction. You are confident in making technical decisions, leading design work on projects and taking responsibility for quality, time and finances.

The role requires:

• A minimum of 8 years' experience as a structural engineer
• Very good skills in static calculations and dimensioning
• Documented experience of working according to Eurocodes and BBR
• Experience of managing projects with responsibility for quality, time and economy
• Good knowledge of Revit and/or Tekla
• Very good Swedish in speech and writing
• B-driving license

In addition, you have a high analytical ability and a structured approach, which allows you to handle complex technical challenges and find robust, cost-effective solutions. You thrive in a senior technical role and find it easy to collaborate and communicate with both colleagues and customers.

Preferred:

• Experience in complex projects, such as hospital, defense or security classified buildings
• In-depth expertise in steel and/or concrete construction
• Certifications or specialist roles in construction or building design
