Job Description

AFRY Nuclear is one of Sweden’s leading players in the nuclear power sector, with extensive experience as a partner to both Swedish and international energy producers. We work across the entire nuclear power lifecycle, from the modernization and lifetime extension of existing facilities to new nuclear power plants, decommissioning, and radioactive waste management. Our projects span several technical areas, including design, mechanics, process engineering, construction, electrical systems and automation, reactor safety, and waste management.

We hold a unique position of trust in our market, and the combination of our size, broad expertise, and long-term customer relationships enables us to earn the trust needed to contribute to some of the industry’s most complex and socially critical projects. As part of our continued growth, we are now further expanding our operations in Gothenburg, Halmstad, and Varberg and are seeking design engineers who want to help shape the fossil-free energy systems of the future.

In the role of design engineer, you will work on varied and challenging projects within the nuclear power industry. Projects may involve modernization, new construction, life extension, or decommissioning. Your responsibilities may vary depending on the assignment but will primarily include:

  • Design using drafting software
  • Calculations and analyses of existing building and concrete structures
  • Review of documentation and drawings
  • Development of proposed measures and repair plans

You’ll be part of a dedicated team that works closely with one another and our clients. Thanks to our position and collective expertise, we can offer a wide range of assignments and, consequently, significant opportunities for professional development in an industry facing substantial investments and long-term growth. You will play a central role in our clients’ operations, with the opportunity to work closely with their organizations. Depending on the project, you will spend 3–5 days per week on-site at the client’s location; remote work is partially possible depending on the project and your responsibilities.

Qualifications

We place a high value on personal qualities to ensure you thrive in this role. We’re looking for someone who is interested in developing a career in the nuclear power industry and who enjoys delving into technical issues. You’re a quick learner and use your curiosity to continuously build on your expertise.

You thrive in a role based on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and establishing and developing relationships with colleagues and clients. You have a flexible approach, contribute where needed, and adapt to changing circumstances, while your meticulous and structured work style ensures high quality across multiple concurrent assignments.

In addition, we are looking for:

  • Experience in construction, concrete, and/or steel structures
  • Experience with project work in safety-critical and highly regulated sectors, such as nuclear power, the pharmaceutical industry, the defense industry, the aerospace industry, infrastructure, or similar sectors
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, road and water engineering, structural and building engineering, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Swedish and English
  • Class B driver’s license

We consider it a plus if you have:

  • Operational/practical experience at a nuclear power plant
  • A master’s degree in engineering
