Job description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at AFRY, you will work with the entire chain of mechanical design. The role involves creating 3D models and drawings in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor, selecting materials and components, and performing overall strength calculations. You will be an important part of the project team and responsible for the mechanical design part, which requires close collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines.The work is mainly done at AFRY's office or at the client's premises, but there may also be some opportunity to work from home.  

We expect that you can drive the design work from idea to finished solution and contribute with your expertise to ensure that the project delivers according to requirements and schedule. You will be supported by your manager and a designated buddy who will help you get into the role, as well as access to AFRY's wide network of specialists. In the long term there are good development opportunities - for example to deepen yourself in strength calculations, take role as a design manager or project manager, and develop as a consultant with a holistic perspective in customer assignments. 

Some assignments may require security review, which means that the role may include security classified projects in the future. 

Qualifications

In the role of mechanical designer, your personal qualities are crucial to success. You need to be a "problem solver" who can handle complex design challenges by seeing the big picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. Furthermore, it is important that you plan and structure your work, with clear plans for construction assignments and order of drawings and releases to ensure quality in the project. The role also requires you to be Initiative taking, as as a consultant you are often expected to drive the work forward without anyone micromanaging you. Finally, it is crucial that you are service oriented, as you represent AFRY at the client site and need to act with a service spirit, deliver according to the client's needs and be responsive to new opportunities. 

Requirements 

• Work experience: 
• Good knowledge of overall mechanical design 
• Experience with CAD design in any 3D CAD program 
• Ability to collaborate and work in project teams 
• Education: 
• High school education in mechanical engineering or equivalent 
• System knowledge: 
• Experience working in any CAD program 
• Language skills: 
• Understand and speak Swedish and English relatively freely and in detail in both speech and writing 

Advantageous 

• Work experience: 
• Knowledge of machining techniques 
• Comprehensive understanding of welding design 
• Education: 
• Courses or experience in welding design  
• Systems knowledge: 
• SolidWorks, Catia or Inventor
