Job Description

We have a lot going on here, and to meet the growing demand for our services, we’re now looking for someone who wants to work as a Fire Alarm Inspection Technician. We perform inspection audits on electrical and fire protection systems, carry out work at heights on masts and towers to inspect steel structures, radio communication equipment, and wind turbines, as well as the inspection and verification of civil defense shelters. We also handle the design and inspection of solar panels, the inspection and testing of telecommunications facilities, construction site safety coordination, and serve as the responsible inspector under the Planning and Building Act, among many other tasks. Our clients range from municipalities, property owners, regions, and the Church of Sweden to contractors, public sector organizations, and industry.

The role of “Inspection Engineer” within the Public and Commercial Places segmentprimarily involves the inspection of fire protection systems in accordance with the requirements of the SwedishFire Protection Association, but may also include investigations, design assignments, and other types of inspections. The work requires a solid foundation of knowledge, both practical and theoretical.

At our offices, you’ll meet colleagues from both your own section with electrical expertise and from other sections in disciplines such as HVAC, Energy, Fire Safety, Controls, and more. You’ll be part of a group of dedicated and open-minded colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and experience. At AFRY, we have a national network of certified fire protection system engineers, where we share knowledge and experiences across regions. In Karlstad, you’ll have several fire protection engineers who can support you in your day-to-day work. On the team, you’ll also have a colleague who is a certified fire alarm inspector.

In the long term, other types of inspections—beyond fire alarms—may also become relevant for the right candidate. For those who demonstrate successful performance as an inspector, opportunities for further training to conduct inspections in other areas may open up.

The role is based at our office in Karlstad, where you’ll prepare inspection reports, schedule new inspections, and handle administrative tasks; however, the role also involves spending time in the field conducting inspections.

Qualifications

We are looking for a colleague who is interested in technology and stays up to date with current regulations. To succeed in this role, you need to be curious and eager to explore new opportunities and build your own client base. You’re proactive, driven, self-motivated, and get things done. Of course, you’ll have a supportive team of colleagues around you. Reaching out to clients comes naturally to you. You communicate openly and honestly and aren’t afraid to address the errors and shortcomings highlighted in an inspection report, while remaining service-oriented and collaborative in your interactions with customers.

It is important that you can adhere to rules, procedures, and processes and demonstrate a high level of integrity in the role of inspector, as it can at times be a demanding role. At the same time, you must be adaptable and responsive to the expectations of both the client and the team. You have a humble attitude and are able to both receive and provide feedback. In this role, both the personal qualities mentioned above and technical skills are essential for success in communication and delivering results.

We’re looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience with fire protection systems or related technical systems. If you are a certified fire alarm engineer (certification according to SBF 1007), that is a plus. Experience in the design, commissioning, or servicing of fire alarm systems is a plus. You have a technical education at the high school or post-secondary level. A background in electrical engineering or an A or AL license is a plus. Knowledge of SBF 110 and/or AutoCAD is a plus. You have a strong ability to read drawings and technical documentation. Your proficiency in Swedish and English is very good, both spoken and written. In addition, you have a Class B driver’s license and strong proficiency with the Office suite. We assume you have the technical skills required to work with our internal systems, such as IA risk analyses, PX, SAP Concur, SharePoint, and Teams.
