AFRY offers services in engineering, design, digitalization, and consulting. We are dedicated experts in industry, energy, and infrastructure, and we create value for future generations. Job Description

We have nearly 300 employees in the region from Gävle to Kiruna. Together, we’re building the sustainable society of tomorrow through our specialized expertise in infrastructure, industry, energy, and civil engineering.

For our Service Area Geotechnical Engineering North, we’re now looking for a team leader based in Umeå.

Geotechnical Engineering North consists of just over 60 geotechnical engineers, field engineers, project managers, and specialists spread across several locations in northern Sweden. We work on everything from local projects to some of the country’s most complex infrastructure, industrial, and energy transition projects.

As team leader, you will be responsible for our team in Umeå, which currently consists of approximately 6 employees. You will be responsible for planning, profitability, business development, quality, the work environment, and employee professional development. This role is combined with your own consulting work, for example as a project manager, technical lead, or geotechnical specialist.

You will be part of the management team for Geotechnical Engineering North and work closely with fellow team leaders in several locations across northern Sweden. Together, you will develop the business, our employees, and our projects.

You will report to the Service Area Manager and be based at our office in Umeå.

Qualifications

At AFRY, we’re all team players, and in the role of group manager, we believe you’re committed, responsive, curious, and collaborative. You have a genuine interest in people and are driven by creating opportunities for both employees and the business to grow.

You are a relationship-building leader who is motivated by developing employees, client relationships, and business. You value collaboration and knowledge sharing and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, road and water engineering, or an equivalent field. We also welcome applicants who have acquired equivalent expertise through extensive and relevant industry experience.

To succeed in this role, we believe you have several years of experience with geotechnical projects, for example as a project manager, technical lead, specialist, or in another leadership role within consulting, contracting, or client-side operations. You have an understanding of the various stages of a project and enjoy combining engineering, business, and leadership.

Previous experience in personnel management, business development, or leadership is a plus but not a requirement. We welcome both experienced leaders and those currently working as geotechnical consultants, project managers, or technical managers who are ready to take the next step in their careers.

You must be fluent in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

We place great importance on your personal qualities, your commitment, and your desire to grow as a leader. We are looking for someone who wants to help further develop an already strong and competent team in Umeå, where you will work with your colleagues to create an attractive workplace, build long-term client relationships, and contribute to continued growth within Geotechnical Engineering North.

Additional Information

At AFRY, you’ll have access to nearly 19,000 colleagues worldwide and extensive opportunities for professional development through leadership programs, technical networks, and internal training. We offer a modern workplace with a collective bargaining agreement, flexible work arrangements, and a good work-life balance.
