Job Description

AFRY is one of the leading players in geotechnical engineering in Sweden, with over 100 employees in geotechnical engineering. Within the Transportation business area, we are just over 1,400 employees who, together with colleagues in AFRY’s other business areas, create the sustainable solutions of the future.

Do you want to lead and develop geotechnical engineers while continuing to work closely on projects? AFRY is now seeking a team leader for our geotechnical engineering operations in Gothenburg. The role combines personnel management with project management.

You will be employed by Geotechnical Engineering West, which works closely with Soil Investigation West under joint management. Together, we are just over 30 employees. Here, the entire chain is brought together—from field investigations and an advanced geotechnical laboratory to administrative processing and design. We have recently won several major framework agreements and exciting projects. We are now looking for someone who wants to help drive the business forward. As a team leader, you will be responsible for a team that currently consists of seven employees: six geotechnical engineers and one designer who works with computer-aided design (CAD). Together with the other team leader, you will manage resource planning with a planning horizon of approximately 2–6 months. You will support the section manager, who holds the title of Service Area Manager, in developing the entire section.

Your Responsibilities

  • Have overall responsibility for the team’s employees, including through performance and development reviews, professional development, onboarding, and workplace safety
  • Plan resources and workload together with the other team leader and coordinate between the field, laboratory, and administrative teams
  • Lead your own geotechnical projects with responsibility for finances, timelines, quality, and client relations
  • Drive the section’s development together with the section manager, for example regarding work methods, recruitment, bidding, and business development

What We Offer

  • A leadership role where you can influence both your employees’ development and the direction of the section
  • Close collaboration within the section’s management team
  • An integrated environment where fieldwork, laboratory work, and administrative tasks are all part of the same operation
  • Projects at all stages in the areas of roads, railways, water and wastewater (VA), urban planning, and landslide risk assessments, for both public and private clients
  • A strong national geotechnical network and AFRY’s internal leadership training programs

Qualifications

What you need

  • Solid experience as a geotechnical engineer and experience working as a project manager  for geotechnical projects
  • Experience leading others, formally or informally, for example as a project manager, team leader, or mentor
  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with a specialization in geotechnical engineering
  • Fluency in spoken and written Swedish, as well as a good command of English

It is advantageous if you have

  • Formal personnel responsibility
  • Experience with resource planning in a consulting firm
  • Experience with bidding, business development, and framework agreements
  • An understanding of field and laboratory operations and how they interact with administrative processes
  • Leadership training.

Personal Qualities As a person, you are a coaching leader who creates clarity, provides feedback, and enables employees to grow. You have strong planning and prioritization skills, and you make timely decisions when assignments and resources conflict. You are customer-oriented and business-minded, and you take responsibility for the team and for the section’s shared goals.
