Company Profile

AFRY offers services in engineering, design, digitalization, and consulting. We are dedicated experts in industry, energy, and infrastructure, creating value for future generations. AFRY has a global reach with deep roots in the Nordic region. Together, we are accelerating the transition to a more sustainable society.

Job Description

Do you want to contribute to safer workplaces and a more sustainable future? We’re looking for someone who wants to work across a broad range of areas within occupational health and safety, health, safety, and quality—in both line operations and projects.

As part of AFRY’s Industry Division, you’ll be a key player in the Nordic region’s largest safety organization—a collective force of over 150 experts in occupational health and safety, machine safety, process safety, fire protection, and civil protection and emergency preparedness, spread across some 30 offices in Sweden. With us, you’ll work at the forefront alongside the European Commission, standardization bodies, and national authorities to influence and develop the safety requirements of the future.

As an HSE/occupational health and safety consultant, you’ll work in an advisory role, supporting operations and projects with both operational and strategic issues. Assignments can range from longer-term engagements with a client to shorter-term assignments in various project environments.

You’ll work closely with managers, project leaders, and colleagues to help develop safe, efficient, and sustainable work practices. The role offers great variety and the opportunity to work across multiple industries.

You’ll be part of our national specialist team, where you’ll work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues.

Your responsibilities may include, among other things:

  • Supporting and developing systematic occupational health and safety management (SAM)
  • Identifying risks, conducting risk assessments, and driving improvement measures
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and standards
  • Developing and implementing management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001)
  • Conducting internal audits, gap analyses, and inspections
  • Managing incidents, near misses, and investigations
  • Planning and conducting training in occupational health and safety
  • Report on and follow up on KPIs and regulatory requirements
  • Serve in roles such as HSE advisor, occupational health and safety coordinator, or safety manager on projects

The location is flexible. We have the ability to hire in several locations in central Sweden, such as Stockholm, Uppsala, Gävle, Västerås, Karlstad, Falun, or Borlänge. The role may involve travel within and outside Sweden.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has relevant education in occupational health and safety, HSE, engineering, or equivalent
  • Have several years of experience working in HSE/occupational health and safety, preferably in both project and production environments—and we therefore believe you may have worked in the construction/civil engineering sector and/or the manufacturing industry
  • Have a solid understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, risk management, and systematic occupational health and safety practices
  • Have experience with, or knowledge of, BAS-P/BAS-U
  • Hold a valid Class B driver’s license
  • Are fluent in spoken and written Swedish and English

If you also have experience with quality and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001) as well as experience in developing a safety culture, leading training sessions, or driving improvement initiatives, we consider this a plus for this role.

To thrive with us, we believe you’re a team player with a strong interest in technology and a desire to build relationships, both internally and with customers. You are solution-oriented, flexible, and thrive in a role where you manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The role also involves responsibility for planning and organizing your work, managing budgets for your assignments, and ensuring deliveries within agreed-upon timeframes. We’re looking for someone who is curious, takes initiative, and wants to grow and help drive our work forward.
