Job Description

Would you like to help develop the products, machines, and production solutions of the future? We are currently seeking a mechanical design engineer who wants to combine technical creativity with practical problem-solving in exciting industrial projects.

As a mechanical designer at AFRY, you’ll work through the entire design process, from early ideas and concept development to the final design and implemented solution. You’ll create 3D models and technical documentation using modern CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Inventor, while also contributing to material selection, component selection, and technical assessments to ensure sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

You’ll be an integral part of our project teams and will work closely with colleagues across multiple technical disciplines to translate customer needs into smart and functional solutions. The role involves a high degree of personal responsibility, where you’ll drive the design work forward and ensure that deliverables are of high quality, meet technical requirements, and adhere to the project schedule.

Work is primarily conducted from AFRY’s offices or on-site at the client’s location, with the possibility of some remote work depending on the nature of the assignment.

As a new employee with us, you’ll receive support from both your manager and a designated mentor who will help you quickly get up to speed. You’ll also become part of AFRY’s broad network of specialists, where knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development are a natural part of everyday life.

For those who want to grow, there are excellent opportunities to shape your future career based on your interests. For example, you can specialize in structural analysis, move into design management or project management, or broaden your expertise as a technical consultant responsible for larger, end-to-end projects.

Certain assignments may require a security clearance, which means that the role may in the future involve work on security-classified projects.

Qualifications

In the role of mechanical design engineer, your personal qualities are crucial to your success. You need to be a “problem solver” who can handle complex design challenges by seeing the big picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. Furthermore, it is important that you plan and structure your work, with clear plans for design assignments and organized drawings and revisions to ensure project quality. The role also requires that you take the initiative, as you, as a consultant, are often expected to drive the work forward without someone micromanaging you. Finally, it is crucial that you are service-oriented, as you represent AFRY when visiting clients and need to act with a service-oriented mindset, deliver according to the client’s needs, and be receptive to new opportunities.
