Job Description

Would you like to lead engineering projects that strengthen Sweden’s security and future defense capabilities?

Being a project manager in the defense industry means stepping into some of Sweden’s most advanced and socially critical technology environments. At AFRY, you’ll lead development projects spanning aviation, naval systems, ground platforms, sensor technology, and complex safety-critical systems. Here, development isn’t just about technology—it’s about creating robust solutions that directly contribute to Sweden’s defense capabilities, preparedness, and resilience.

As a project manager, you’ll be the hub of a cross-functional team consisting of experts in electronics, embedded systems, mechanics, system architecture, and testing. You’ll keep the big picture together: requirements, system understanding, risk management, scheduling, technical dependencies, and quality assurance. The role involves close collaboration with both technical specialists and the business side, where you’ll help establish structure, direction, and the conditions necessary for the development team to deliver.

Our projects are characterized by long lifecycles, clear processes, security standards, and cutting-edge technology. Many people find defense projects to be among the most meaningful and technically interesting projects one can work on. You will either work at a client site in Stockholm or as part of our in-house team in Solna.

You have:

Relevant college degree, as well as:

  • Experience leading technical development projects

  • Ability to coordinate multiple technical areas and drive progress in complex systems
  • Strong communication skills and a habit of working in a structured manner
  • Fluency in spoken and written Swedish and English
  • A background as a developer in embedded software, electronics, or mechanics – you understand the technology, work methods, and challenges from an engineering perspective as well

Desirable:

• Experience in the military, volunteer defense organizations, the Swedish Home Guard, or completion of mandatory military service • Project management certification (IPMA, PMP, or similar) • Experience in requirements management, systems engineering, or test management • Background in safety-critical projects or formal quality processes

You must be a Swedish citizen, and the position requires a security clearance—an opportunity to work on development projects and technical systems that few people have access to!
