Job Description

You’ll become part of a strong geotechnical network with about 200 colleagues in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada.

In Sweden, we have offices from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north. We are a team of about 100 dedicated employees with specialized expertise in engineering geology, rock mechanics, blasting technology, and bedrock geology. Our teams are involved in projects ranging from mapping for roads and railways, modeling of mineral deposits, feasibility studies and rock inspections for hydropower, fieldwork and detailed design of new infrastructure, as well as technical support during the construction phase of new residential projects.

We are currently seeking an engineer or geologist with experience in rock mechanics calculations, field surveys, and feasibility studies for construction in rock for our region in the Southwest.

Typical assignments for the group include the design of rock structures. Inspections and surveys of rock slopes and tunnels. Preliminary investigations and planning for new residential, road, and rail construction. With us, you’ll have the opportunity to develop in the direction that interests you most, alongside our senior colleagues in rock engineering, blasting technology, and technical documentation. If you become part of our larger infrastructure projects, you’ll gain exposure to the full breadth of our civil engineering expertise—ranging from geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, bridge and civil engineering to BIM and surveying.

The position may involve working on projects in other parts of Sweden or abroad. Business travel is a natural part of our work.

In addition to becoming part of our community and tapping into our network’s collective expertise, we can offer everything from large, complex infrastructure projects in road and rail with underground rock structures to local rock engineering inspections, construction management, and design. Our assignments are often varied, and we work in interdisciplinary teams in close collaboration with some of AFRY’s other 18,000 technical experts.

The position is based in Gothenburg, but there may be an opportunity to work from one of our other offices in the region.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has 2–5 years of experience in rock mechanics and rock engineering, preferably with experience in geotechnical design calculations and project planning. You have strong verbal and written communication skills, are comfortable actively participating in technical discussions, and thrive in an environment characterized by collaboration and client interaction.

You should hold a university or college degree with a focus on rock mechanics, rock geology, or rock engineering, and be able to communicate fluently in both Swedish and English. Experience in geotechnical engineering, geostructures, tunneling, and CAD is a plus, as is prior experience working with technical specifications and AB/ABT standards.

A Class B driver’s license is required.

At AFRY, we see ourselves as bold and dedicated team players—something we hope you can relate to as well!
