Job Description
As an automation engineer at AFRY, you will work on programming, configuration, and commissioning of control systems within industrial projects. The role involves developing solutions in PLC and SCADA systems, primarily inSiemens TIA Portal and ABB 800xA, as well as participating in testing and commissioning. You’ll be an important part of the project team and will be responsiblefor the automation component, which requires close collaboration with electrical engineers and project managers.The work is primarily carried out at AFRY’s office inKalmar or on-site at the client’s location, with some opportunity to work from home.
We expect you to be able to drive the programming process from concept to a finished solution and contribute your expertiseto ensure that the project delivers according to requirements and the schedule. You’ll receive support from your manager and colleagues, as well as access toAFRY’s extensive network of specialists.In the long term, there are excellent opportunities for professional development,—for example, to deepen your expertise in advanced programming, take on the role ofa system engineer or project manager, and develop as a consultant with a holistic perspective on client projects.
Some assignments may require a security vetting, which means that the role may come to include security-classified projects in the future.
Qualifications
To succeed in the role of automation engineer,you’ll need a problem-solving mindset that allows you to quicklycan identify the causes of problems in complex control systems, analyze various solution options,and choose the most effective way forward. You’re business-minded and organized, which means thatyou plan and organize your work systematically with regard tocode and documentation, and ensure that the project adheres to agreed-upon requirements, timelines, and budgets. The role also requires that you be ambitious—you take responsibilityto drive tasks forward, actively seek improvements, and keepup to date on new technology.Finally, it’s important that you’re a team player who collaboratesclosely with colleagues and customers, shares knowledge, and contributesto a positive work environment.
