Job Description

At AFRY Advanced Automation in Västerås, we help some of Sweden’s leading industrial companies develop, modernize, and streamline their production and process facilities. Our clients are facing major investments in automation, digitalization, and sustainable production, which creates exciting opportunities for those who want to work at the forefront of technological development.

We are now looking for an experienced automation engineer who wants to help deliver advanced automation solutions in the industrial, energy, water, and process industries. With us, you’ll work with market-leading systems such as Siemens PCS7, ABB 800xA, TIA Portal, and AVEVA System Platform on projects ranging from small-scale modernizations to extensive new construction and turnkey deliveries.

Your role: from system design to a commissioned facility As an automation engineer, you will be an integral part of our project teams and will work throughout the entire project lifecycle. You’ll be involved from early feasibility studies and technical solutions through programming, testing, commissioning, and handover to the customer.

The work combines technical expertise with close collaboration both internally and externally. Depending on your experience, you’ll have the opportunity to take on technical responsibility in projects, lead specific areas, and eventually serve as a mentor to junior colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include

• Programming and configuring PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems
• Developing solutions in Siemens PCS7, ABB 800xA, and TIA Portal
• Feasibility studies, system design, and technical analyses
• Retrofits, migrations, and modernization of existing facilities
• FAT, SAT, and commissioning
• Troubleshooting, optimization, and problem-solving in complex automation environments
• Technical consulting and customer dialogue
• Collaboration with electrical designers, process engineers, and project managers
• Knowledge sharing and support for less experienced colleagues

Qualifications

Requirements 

• Education: Relevant education in automation or equivalent work experience 
• Experience: At least 4 years of experience in industries related to automation, such as:   - Manufacturing industry  - Process industry  - Water & Wastewater - Energy & Heating
• Language Skills: Fluent in Swedish and English, both spoken and written 
• Class B driver’s license 

Desirable 

• Experience in:   - Automotive  - Pharma Life Sciences 
• Knowledge of various automation systems and software within DCS/PLC/SCADA systems, such as:   - SIMATIC PCS 7  - ABB 800xA  - Siemens TIA Portal, S7  - AVEVA System Platform
• Experience with older ABB products (AC450, MP200) and system upgrades
