Job Description

AFRY Advanced Automation in Borlänge is part of AFRY’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable automation solutions to the industry, with a particular focus on Siemens SIMATIC PCS7. We work closely with our customers to create efficient, safe, and future-proof systems that contribute to increased productivity and reduced environmental impact.

Our team consists of dedicated specialists in automation, electrical design, mechanical design, and project management. Together, we work with advanced PCS7-based solutions, where professional development and collaboration are central.

We are looking for an automation engineer who wants to help drive the development of advanced automation solutions focused on PCS7 within our projects.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring that automation requirements are met in ongoing projects, where you will sometimes follow the entire project process—from the customer’s initial idea and sales support to the commissioned facility—and at other times contribute your specialized expertise in Siemens PCS7 to specific parts of the project.

You will also serve as a sub-project manager, which entails responsibility for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the automation component of our projects, with particular responsibility for deliverables related to PCS7 solutions. The work is carried out both locally from our office in Borlänge and in collaboration with the rest of AFRY’s organization. A large portion of our projects are in the steel and energy sectors, where PCS7 is a central platform.

Work weeks vary. Some projects run for longer periods and involve continuous work with PCS7 systems, while other weeks consist of shorter assignments such as optimization, troubleshooting, or upgrades at various facilities. You will work closely with our automation team in Borlänge, where sharing knowledge about PCS7 is a central part of daily life.

We expect you to take a leading role in our automation projects, demonstrating a high level of responsibility and strong collaboration skills. The role also involves serving as a mentor to junior colleagues in PCS7 and contributing to the team’s technical development.

At AFRY, there is a strong network of expertise forums that connect our PCS7 specialists across the entire organization. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to build relationships, share knowledge, and develop your skills in new technical areas related to the Siemens platform. System development is advancing rapidly, and our clients’ PCS7 environments will require continuous upgrades and further development. You must therefore be open to learning new technologies and versions within the PCS7 ecosystem. The role is not security-classified at this time, but may involve security-classified assignments in the future.

Qualifications

In this role, it is important that you have a strong sense of planning and structure. You work methodically and are accustomed to handling complex system environments, such as Siemens PCS7, where you break down tasks into clear steps and ensure the quality of the deliverables. Accuracy and attention to detail are an integral part of your work style.

We also value integrity. You prioritize the team’s and the organization’s goals and always act professionally, especially in projects where PCS7 is business-critical to the customer’s operations.

Finally, communication is a key competency. You express yourself openly and honestly, listen to others’ perspectives, and foster dialogue—both internally and in customer collaborations where you often serve as a technical expert in PCS7.

Requirements

  • Relevant professional experience in industrial automation with a clear focus on Siemens SIMATIC PCS7
  • Relevant formal education in automation or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong system knowledge of PCS7 (design, programming, commissioning)
  • Language skills: Swedish and English, both spoken and written

Desirable

  • Engineering degree in electrical engineering/automation with an industrial focus
  • Experience working on projects, preferably in a leadership role within PCS7-based automation projects
  • Experience with upgrades and migrations of PCS7 systems
  • Experience serving as a lead engineer and supporting junior colleagues
  • Experience integrating PCS7 with drive systems or other industrial systems
  • Experience with projects in the steel, metal, or energy sectors
