Job description
We are looking for a Senior Specialist in Industrial Water Treatment to join our team in Sweden. We are currently located in Solna, Gothenburg, Linköping, Falun, Karlstad and Härnösand/Sundvall. We are now looking for additions to one of these locations in particular. In this role, you will participate in our work to design, implement and optimize solutions for industrial water treatment for our customers in various industrial sectors.
We are a knowledgeable, social and business-driven team that is happy and often collaborates cross-functionally. Our assignments are varied, span multiple industries, are at the forefront of technology and drive our clients' green transition efforts.
The tasks may include:
- Develop and operate technically complex solutions for industrial water treatment from idea to completion, in areas such as raw water treatment, wastewater treatment, water saving measures and sludge management.
- Design and optimize water treatment systems to meet specific customer needs and expectations.
- Conduct lab tests on wastewater with regard to microbiological and chemical content and properties, as well as tests of possible treatment efficacy with different methods.
- Analyze water quality data from customers and recommend appropriate treatment methods.
- Ensure compliance with national and EU requirements and standards for water treatment.
- Troubleshoot and fix problems in existing treatment plants.
- Prepare technical reports and give presentations to clients and stakeholders.
- Follow developments and keep up to date with the latest advances in water treatment technology and best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues within AFRY in Sweden and globally to ensure that our projects are effective and successful.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues with technical expertise and mentorship.
- Conduct site evaluations and feasibility studies for new water treatment installations.
- Build and nurture long-term client relationships.
- Participate in relevant networks and conferences.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or other relevant education.
- At least 8 years of experience in industrial water treatment in, for example, the chemical, biochemical or petrochemical industry, the mining and metal industry, or the paper and pulp industry.
- Ability to communicate clearly with adapted messages to different target groups (both in Swedish and English).
- Thrives to work in cross-functional and international teams with both internal and external colleagues.
- Have good ability to collaborate and build working relationships with colleagues and customers.
The following knowledge/qualities are meritorious:
- Experience in e.g. biological treatment techniques (activated sludge, MBBR, anaerobic, MBR, etc.), membrane processes (UF, NF, MF, RO), ion exchange techniques, chemical treatment techniques (precipitation, flocculation), sludge management techniques, etc.
- Knowledge of water quality analysis, monitoring and data interpretation
- Understanding of how different treatment equipment works for different treatment needs
- Interest in problem solving and troubleshooting
- Excellent project management skills and preferably experience in the implementation of water treatment projects

- Knowledge of data analysis and reporting software
- Understanding of water chemistry and microbiology
- Knowledge of water treatment regulations and standards, both local and from the EU
- Knowledge of sustainability practices in water management
- Contribute to networking with treatment equipment suppliers, treatment plant users, authorities, etc.
- Possibility to travel to clients in Sweden and abroad for on-site evaluations and project implementations
