Job Description

Would you like to do your thesis project in automation?

AFRY Automation is a major division within AFRY; with over 600 dedicated employees in Sweden, we help our clients with advanced technical solutions while navigating the industry’s transition toward a greener future and a more digitalized world. We therefore see a great need to recruit more skilled employees and are now looking for someone who wants to write their thesis with us.

The goal of this thesis project is to develop a tool or methodology for converting PLC code written in Ladder and, in part, function blocks into an object-oriented format to meet today’s requirements for structure and user-friendliness in program code.

You will have the opportunity to explore functions such as:

  • Object classification
  • Structuring of UDT
  • Data management

We would prefer that this thesis project be carried out by two students. Support will be provided by AFRY, where an official advisor will be assigned.

If you have your own idea for how you’d like to approach the thesis project, we’d be happy to discuss it and see how it might fit with our business and identified future needs. Timeline Start in February 2027 and completion during the spring semester of 2027. The thesis project will be carried out at AFRY’s office in Malmö, where your supervisor is based.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who plans to complete their thesis during the spring of 2027 and who is pursuing a master’s degree in engineering or a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a focus on automation.

You are in the final stages of your degree program, are interested in industrial automation, and have a good understanding of—and interest in—identifying needs and facts, as well as programming a solution using object-oriented coding in structured text or function blocks. Previous programming experience is a plus. Proficiency in Swedish and English is required.

This thesis project in Automation is particularly well-suited for those interested in one or more of the following areas:

  • Industrial IT
  • PLC programming
  • Data structuring
