Job Description

As a mechanical engineer at AFRY, you will workacross the entire mechanical design process. The role involves creating3D models and drawings in CAD tools such as SolidWorks orInventor, selecting materials and components, and performing overall strength calculations. You’ll be an important part of the project team and will be responsible for the mechanicaldesign aspect, which requires close collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines.The work is primarily carried out atAFRY’s offices or at the client’s site, but there may also be some opportunity to work from home.

We expect you to be able to drive the design work from conceptto a finished solution and contribute your expertiseto ensure that the project delivers according to requirements and schedule. You’ll receive support from your manager and a designated buddy who will helpyou settle into the role, as well as access toAFRY’s extensive network of specialists.In the long term, there are good opportunities for professional development—for example, to deepen your expertise in structural analysis, take on the role ofdesign manager or project manager, and develop as a consultant with a holistic perspective on client projects.

Some assignments may require security vetting, which means that the role may involve security-classified projects in the future.

Qualifications

In the role of mechanical designer, your personal qualities are crucial to your success. You need to be a Problem Solver who can handle complex design challenges by seeing the big picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. Furthermore, it is important that you Plan and structure your work, with clear plans for design assignments and organized drawings and versions to ensure project quality. The role also requires that you are Proactive, as you, as a consultant, are often expected to drive the work forward without someone micromanaging you. Finally, it is crucial that you are Service-oriented, as you represent AFRY with clients and need to act with a service-oriented mindset, deliver according to the client’s needs, and be receptive to new opportunities. 

Requirements 

• Work experience: 
• Strong knowledge of general mechanical design 
• Experience with CAD design in a 3D CAD program 
• Ability to collaborate and work in project teams 
• Education: 
• College degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent 
• System knowledge: 
• Experience working in a CAD program 
• Language skills: 
• understand and speak Swedish as well as English relatively fluently and in detail, both spoken and written 

Desirable 

• Work experience: 
• Knowledge of machining techniques 
• General understanding of welding design 
• Education: 
• Courses or experience in welding design
• System knowledge:
• SolidWorks, Catia, or Inventor
