About the Department

In the municipality of Älvsbyn, you’ll become part of a small but highly competent and supportive team where we care for one another and work together to achieve good results. Individual and Family Services encompasses the following areas: children and youth, foster care, family law, financial assistance, and adult services. The department consists of 14 case workers, one administrator, one senior social worker, and a department head. We are a close-knit group that supports one another, and we offer a pleasant work environment with close managerial support.

Job Responsibilities

In a smaller municipality, you’ll gain a unique, holistic perspective and a broad scope of responsibilities. With us, you won’t be just another anonymous case worker in the crowd. You’ll manage your own cases and meet with clients, while also having a clear mandate to develop our work processes. We want to modernize our processes, shorten processing times, and strengthen collaboration with the labor market unit and external partners. Here, you’ll have the freedom to think innovatively and test new methods to help people become self-sufficient.

Child Welfare Officer – You are the child’s voice in the system. As a child welfare officer, you work to protect and support children and youth in vulnerable situations. Your focus is always on the best interests of the child. Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Assessing and understanding: Conducting safety assessments and child welfare investigations in accordance with the Social Services Act (SoL) to identify the child’s needs and the family’s living situation.
  • Make decisions regarding support: Determine the appropriate interventions, ranging from preventive support in outpatient care to placements in foster homes or residential care facilities (HVB) when home circumstances require it.
  • Follow up and monitor: Meet regularly with the child in care to talk, listen, and ensure they are doing well and receiving the care to which they are entitled.
  • Handling Compulsory Care Legislation: Initiating legal proceedings and applying for care under the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) when there is a significant risk to the child’s health or development and voluntary interventions are not possible.
 Foster Care Coordinator – You Build Safe HavensAs a foster care coordinator, your focus is on the wonderful families who open their homes to the children placed by the child welfare workers. Your main responsibilities will be to:
  • Recruit and evaluate: Identify, evaluate, and assess new foster families and emergency foster homes to ensure they can provide a safe and stable environment.
  • Support and train: Provide guidance, training, and ongoing support to our foster families so they have the right tools for their important mission.
  • Collaborate on behalf of the child: Work closely with the child welfare officer to ensure that the foster family has the right conditions to meet that specific child’s unique needs.
Social Worker, Financial Assistance – You open doors to self-sufficiency. In the Financial Assistance program, you’ll work with adults and families who need temporary financial support, with the goal always being to help them stand on their own two feet again. Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Assessing financial circumstances and eligibility: Evaluate and make decisions regarding eligibility for income support based on current legislation and the individual’s financial situation.
  • Motivate change: Identify the client’s resources and develop a joint plan for how they can achieve self-sufficiency.
  • Collaborate for the future: Work closely with the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and the healthcare system to create a clear path to employment or education.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work, a degree from the Social Care Program, or other academic training that the employer deems adequate. We expect you to have strong investigative and documentation skills, as well as the ability to express yourself clearly both verbally and in writing. A Class B driver’s license is required.

As a person, you are reliable, self-motivated, and organized. You are professional in your role, have a positive demeanor, and are a good team player. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Knowledge and experience in social work involving the administration of financial assistance, as well as knowledge of the Social Services Act, are considered a plus. As well as experience with the Pulsen Combine operational system.
