Would you like to help build a sustainable future? Are you interested in environmental and waste management issues? Then you might be the person we’re looking for! We are currently seeking an employee for the Recycling Center at Brändkläppen in Boden.
Customers come to the recycling centers (ÅVC) to drop off items they no longer want. As a staff member at the recycling center, you’ll play an important role in interacting with customers. Together, we’re working toward a sustainable future.
In the municipality of Boden, we accept food waste from several municipalities. The food waste is recycled into biogas, and the first step is to turn the food waste into slurry. The slurry plant is located at Brändkläppen, and from there the slurry is transported to the biogas plant.

JOB DUTIES
Working as a sanitation worker at the recycling center is a varied job with friendly colleagues, where you’ll work together to ensure that daily operations at the Brändkläppen recycling center are managed in an efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible manner. Your responsibilities also include carrying out assignments with our waste service vehicle and operating the slurry plant.
At the recycling center, we focus on waste prevention—that is, we prevent items from becoming waste and prioritize reuse and material recycling over incineration and landfilling. Customer service is our priority; you’ll be our public face and provide excellent customer service. You’ll inform and guide the municipality’s residents on how to sort their waste correctly.
To increase reuse collection, we’ll be staffing our reuse tent, where we’ll perform initial sorting and pack items for pickup prior to sale. Your duties will also include interacting with customers and collecting items and materials for reuse before they’re sorted as waste.
Work at the recycling center also includes inspecting incoming hazardous waste, snow removal, maintaining order and cleanliness, sorting and reloading, handling trash bins, and more. Other independent tasks outside the recycling center are also included, such as distributing compost bags, replacing broken waste bins, and more. The work is partly independent and partly in a group, and can be physically demanding; the vast majority of the work takes place outdoors.
The waste service vehicle receives its assignments via a tablet, and with proper planning, the day’s or week’s tasks are carried out in a time- and environmentally-efficient manner.
In addition to the duties at the recycling center, the role also includes work at the slurry plant, where we manage daily operations—which involves, among other things, loading food waste into the plant using a wheel loader, replacing containers for bulk waste, and monitoring the process from food waste to slurry.
