Water Management at Aitik

Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that takes a long-term approach to ensuring society’s access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future—what matters is how we produce them. Join us and drive change for future generations.

Your Role

Do you want to help shape the sustainable mining industry of the future?

As a Water Management Development Engineer, you’ll work on complex water-related issues, drive development, and contribute to the responsible use of our shared resources. The role covers both surface water and groundwater issues and involves close collaboration with operations to create long-term sustainable solutions that meet technical, operational, and environmental requirements.

You will lead investigations, analyses, and improvement initiatives related to water management while playing a key role in ensuring that operations comply with environmental permits and other requirements. The role combines strategic development work with hands-on elements in the field and is ideal for someone who enjoys working both strategically and operationally.

Your Team

You will be part of the Water Management Section within Aitik’s Sustainability Department. Here, you’ll work closely with colleagues in the water and environmental fields, as well as with environmental coordinators, environmental samplers, consultants, contractors, and other specialist functions. You’ll also be part of Boliden’s broad water management network, with support from experts at both the business area and Group levels.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and carrying out work and studies related to water management.
  • Monitor and evaluate results as well as the water balance for the operations.
  • Ensure compliance with the conditions set forth in environmental permits.
  • Develop short- and long-term forecasts for water management and groundwater conditions.
  • Identify development needs and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in water-related projects as a recipient, point of contact, or expert advisor.
  • Prepare documentation for permitting processes and manage dialogue with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and contribute to systematic improvement efforts.

Your Contribution

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Strong proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Class B driver’s license.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for your tasks.
  • A genuine interest in environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • A solution-oriented approach and the ability to handle complex issues.

The following are considered a plus:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering.
  • Experience with water-related issues.
  • Experience in mining, processing, or other industrial operations.
  • Experience in project management or improvement initiatives
