Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that takes a long-term approach to ensuring society’s access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future—what matters is how we produce them. Join us and drive change for future generations.
Boliden is actively committed to and sets high standards for the environment, climate, health, safety, and quality. Do you want to work closely with operations and make a tangible difference in daily environmental work? As an Environmental Coordinator, you’ll play an operational and central role, helping to ensure that operations are conducted in line with applicable environmental requirements, permits, and internal goals.
We can offer you an interesting and exciting job with challenging opportunities for growth, rewarding social interactions, and a corporate culture based on strong values.
We are now looking for two Environmental Coordinators for Aitik.
Your role
As an Environmental Coordinator, you are responsible for coordinating and developing environmental work within the business by monitoring environmental impact, analyzing results, and ensuring that reporting is done correctly and in accordance with applicable requirements. You will work both operationally and strategically, handling environmental issues in daily operations while contributing to the long-term development of environmental and sustainability efforts. The role includes supporting the organization through consultation, training, and the development of procedures, as well as ensuring compliance with laws, permits, and internal policies, identifying risks, and driving improvements in the environmental area.
Your team
As an Environmental Coordinator, you will be part of the External Environment section, which serves as a central support and control function for the entire Aitik operation. Your colleagues will consist of environmental coordinators and environmental engineers specializing in environmental issues within the mining industry. The section is part of the Sustainability Department and is also included in Boliden’s environmental network, which includes staff functions at both the business area and Group levels.
Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will work closely with production and projects, translating requirements into practical work methods and supporting the organization in succeeding in its environmental efforts. You will be a key player in identifying opportunities for improvement, managing deviations, and contributing to sustainable and efficient operations.
You will be responsible for collecting, quality-assuring, analyzing, and reporting environmental data, such as emissions to air and water as well as waste management. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a structured and meticulous manner, while using your analytical skills to make assessments and draw conclusions from the data. Your work will serve as an important basis for decision-making and contribute directly to the development of the business and regulatory compliance.
The role also gives you the opportunity to work broadly with operational environmental issues by participating in and leading investigations, risk assessments, and follow-ups. You will work closely with the business to ensure that legal requirements and permit conditions are met in practice and that the right measures are implemented and followed up. The role also involves liaising with authorities and helping to increase knowledge and engagement within the organization through support and training. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to combine operational work within the business with analysis, follow-up, and development—in a role where you can truly make a difference.
You’ll report to the Head of the External Environment Section. The positions are based in Aitik, Gällivare, and are daytime positions. Travel is part of the role.
Your contribution
We are looking for someone with a university degree in environmental studies and experience in environmental reporting. Experience working with environmental databases and GIS, knowledge of legal requirements and standards regarding sampling, and knowledge of environmental issues in the mining industry are considered a plus.
Experience in heavy industry, preferably with a connection to mining operations, is a plus. Experience with permitting processes is also advantageous.
To thrive in this role, we believe you are someone who enjoys collaborating and building relationships, as you will have many points of contact both internally and externally. You work in a structured and systematic manner, while also having the ability to see the big picture and think long-term.
