Section Manager for the maintenance of the mine's machinery, equipment and electrical installations

Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that works long-term to guarantee society's access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that shape modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future - what matters is how we produce them. Join us and drive change for future generations.

Your role:

The Mine Maintenance Section Manager is part of the management team of Aitik's mining department and reports to the Mine Manager.

The position involves responsibility for three operating units, each with a directly reporting operations manager who has supervisors for the execution shift teams and planning under them.

The three operating units are:

  • Mechanical maintenance of excavators and drills
  • Mechanical maintenance of mobile (wheeled) machines
  • Electrical maintenance of the above machines and maintenance of the mine's electrical installations

Your team:

Your team consists of the three operations managers above and it is you who together lead the mine maintenance. You are also part of the team that manages the mining department, i.e. the mine's management team.

Your tasks:

The position of Section Manager involves building and continuously improving a maintenance operation that aims for world class. Such an operation is characterized by the fact that the anticipatory and preventive safety and maintenance work governs the execution of the maintenance work, the acute remedial efforts are not controlling but rather parts of deviation management. The production availability of our type of machines and equipment in such a well-developed maintenance operation is then around 90% over time. To get there, you need to lead a cultural journey characterized by unbridled will and determination to constantly improve and improve and constantly stay one step ahead.

The section manager also has the overall and cohesive ownership of the life cycle processes and costs of the machines, from pre-investment studies, procurement, investment projects including commissioning, how the machines are used in operation, how they are maintained and finally decommissioned.

You translate the mine management's requirements for safety and availability of machinery and equipment into operational and financial frameworks and guidelines for resource allocation in terms of personnel, premises and equipment. The time horizons for this are the current and next year (involves setting requirements for and following up subordinate operating units' forecasts and budgets) and the strategic time frames that the mine management from time to time works towards, typically 3-5 years for organizational issues while the time perspectives for the maintenance of machinery and equipment are the life of these. The service thus largely involves adapting maintenance activities to overall strategies and developing strategies to ensure long-term and sustainable maintenance activities.

The development of predictive and preventive maintenance work has the highest priority and it is largely based on the idea that it is as time- and resource-consuming to fix 10 defects before any of these failures as it is to repair a breakdown caused by one of the 10 defects. In concrete terms, the predictive part of maintenance means access to and qualified analysis of machine data that, for example, serves as a basis for inspections. Machine data development is moving fast and mine maintenance needs to keep up with and then be at the forefront of this development.

Maintenance activities use external contractors, some of which are common to the three operating units. The section manager is the driving force and coordinator for creating and updating the agreements with the contractors and following up on contract compliance and contractor performance.

Your contribution:

We look for you to have at least 10 years of experience in maintenance operations, of which at least 5 years of experience in a managerial position in maintenance in industrial companies. You also bring a lot of drive, good teamwork skills and proven experience in strategic development. You are good at communicating and are clear in your role.

Swedish and English in speech and writing, as well as a driving license class B is a requirement.

If you have an academic education, it is a plus.
