Job Description

Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding role where your work makes a real difference for residents every day? Gällivare Municipality is seeking a dedicated communications specialist (temporary position) who wants to help strengthen our external and internal communications. As a communications specialist with us, you’ll play a key role in making important public information clear and accessible.

The position is part of the Growth and Attractiveness Department, which is part of the Support and Development Administration. The department’s mission is to create the conditions for long-term and sustainable growth, a strong business community, and an attractive municipality in which to live and work. Gällivare Municipality is currently undergoing social transformation combined with an expanding mining industry. We are also facing major industrial investments in the future, which will result in an increased need for labor. The department’s focus is on coordinating, initiating, and driving growth and attractiveness initiatives that are strategically important for Gällivare Municipality.

We are now seeking a temporary communications officer to replace the regular incumbent during their parental leave. You will be part of the communications unit, which consists of communications officers, a graphic designer, an information assistant, and a web manager. You will also work closely with other roles within the department. The communications unit is a support function responsible for coordinating the municipality’s messaging, developing its digital channels, and strengthening its overall brand. With us, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a creative environment focused on transparency, participation, and public benefit. We believe in the power of collaboration, and we work closely together to fulfill our shared mission and goals.

Job Responsibilities

In the role of Communications Specialist, you will work both strategically and operationally, serving as both an advisor and an implementer. You will handle all of our internal and external communications related to Gällivare Municipality and the destination brand through the municipality’s channels. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Planning, producing, and publishing content for our digital channels (website, intranet, and social media), as well as monitoring and responding to comments.
  • Providing professional communication support and advice to the municipality’s departments and managers.
  • Maintaining ongoing contact, dialogue, and collaboration with the municipality’s departments to plan relevant communication initiatives.
  • Writing informational materials and press releases, and running campaigns.
  • Ensuring that the municipality’s communications comply with applicable legal requirements, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Brand management (location and employer branding).
  • Monitoring the external environment, keeping track of events in the municipality, and staying up to date on key issues.
  • Evaluating and following up on completed communication initiatives

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • Have completed a relevant college degree in media and communication studies, journalism, or marketing.
  • Have experience in operational and strategic communications work, preferably from municipal or other public sector operations.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in Swedish, with the ability to write and adapt texts, as well as craft and convey messages to different target audiences across various channels.
  • Have experience working with various publishing tools and digital channels.
  • Experience providing professional communication support and advice.
  • Experience with strategic communication planning.
  • Recognizes the opportunities presented by digital communication and is confident in using various digital tools.
  • Experience in crisis communication is a plus.

To succeed in this role, you are:

Analytical and strategic: You easily see the big picture and can break down complex information into messages tailored to specific audiences.

  • Service-oriented and communicative: You are responsive and listen carefully to understand the organization’s needs. Through active participation, you drive the communication efforts forward. You are skilled at communicating, collaborating, building trust, and fostering relationships.
  • Self-motivated and quality-conscious: You plan and complete your tasks within set deadlines with excellent results.
  • A team player: You enjoy working in a team, and for you, it goes without saying to support your colleagues and build internal networks to strengthen the organization’s shared goals. You view communication as a team effort and actively contribute to a positive work environment where we grow together.

Great importance is placed on personal suitability. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.

Gällivare Municipality offers you:

  • Wellness benefits in the form of strength training/group training/Dundret
  • Wellness hour
  • Access to the workplace’s “Well-being Allowance”
  • Membership in GKFF (Gällivare Municipality’s Recreational Association)
