Description of Operations

Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding role where your work makes a real difference for the municipality’s residents, visitors, and employees every day? Would you like to work in a stimulating environment focused on service and customer care, openness, participation, and community benefit? Gällivare Municipality is now seeking a dedicated temporary employee for the municipality’s Service Center to work at the reception desk and switchboard.

The position is part of the Growth and Attractiveness Department, which is part of the Support and Development Administration. The position is based at the Service Center, a unit that includes reception and switchboard services, janitorial services, and mail handling. At the Service Center, you’ll be part of a dedicated team where service and customer interaction are always the focus. We believe in the power of collaboration, and we work closely together to fulfill our shared mission and goals.

Job Responsibilities

Switchboard and reception staff are often the first point of contact with the municipality and are responsible for ensuring that inquiries are directed correctly and handled efficiently. Providing a professional and welcoming reception to the municipality’s residents, business owners, visitors, and employees is a central part of the job.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors and direct them to the appropriate administrative unit, department, or staff member within the municipality.
  • Answer and manage the municipality’s switchboard, assess and route incoming calls to the correct department within the municipality.
  • Provide quick, clear, and accurate basic information about the municipality’s operations, hours of operation, and services.
  • Manage and issue keys and access cards.
  • Stay up to date on current events in the municipality.
  • Handle and perform simple administrative tasks.
  • Maintain a safe and professional environment in the reception area and waiting room.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has completed high school, preferably with a focus on administration, service, communication, or equivalent.
  • Has good computer skills, e.g., email and Office programs.
  • Have a very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.
  • Documented experience in service-oriented roles—such as customer service, reception, or switchboard operations—is a plus, particularly if gained in the public sector.
  • Experience working with the Telia Touch Point tool, which is used in the municipality’s switchboard, is a plus.

To succeed in this role, you are:

  • Service-oriented and helpful: you enjoy interacting with people and have a genuine interest in helping others.
  • Communicative: You are clear, explanatory, and articulate.
  • Responsible: You follow established procedures, take ownership of your tasks, and ensure that visitors and callers receive prompt and accurate assistance.
  • Quality-conscious: You work meticulously, strive for the highest possible quality of service in every single interaction, and are committed to continuous improvement.
  • A person who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team and actively contributes to a positive work environment.

Great importance is placed on personal suitability. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.

Gällivare Municipality offers you:

  • Wellness benefits in the form of strength training/group training/Dundret
  • Wellness hour
  • Access to the workplace’s “Well-being Allowance”
  • Membership in GKFF (Gällivare Municipality’s recreational association)
