Business description

The leisure unit operates and manages sports and leisure facilities in Gällivare municipality. We exist for the citizens of the municipality and the purpose of our activities is to provide conditions for a rich and active leisure time. We offer opportunities for activities of various kinds through our various sports and wellness facilities. We are also responsible for grants and other support to associations. The service will have its main location at the new ice and event arena, but work at several facilities within the unit occurs.

Work tasks

In the service, you perform operation and maintenance work on primarily the ice and event arena and the swimming pool, but there is also work at other sports facilities such as athletics facilities, football pitches, shooting facilities and outdoor facilities. At the facilities, a wide variety of sports and events are conducted, which are used by both associations, the public and schools.

The work tasks vary according to the season and you will drive vehicles such as ice machines, trail stackers and ice planers. There will be minor maintenance and repairs of machinery and equipment. The work is performed with a high degree of autonomy. Our new facilities have developed technology which requires special knowledge in these areas. Most training takes place on site, but in individual cases further training will be carried out at other locations.

You will be part of a team of five arena technicians who also staff other facilities as needed during certain parts of the year. Together, the team has a shared responsibility for ensuring that our sports facilities maintain high standards both outdoors and indoors. A large part of the work is the patrolling, maintenance and care of the business equipment in the ice and event arena, but also the maintenance, cleaning and care of other leisure facilities. The arena technicians are also responsible for water treatment and operation and maintenance work, as well as other property management at the swimming pool. This includes regular checks, repairs, supervision and maintenance as well as emergency service.

As an arena technician, you are the face of our business and deliver the highest service to our visitors at the sports facilities. You will have great opportunities to be part of the development of our facilities, by specializing and deepening your knowledge of high standard sports and technical equipment. To offer our citizens good availability, we staff the facilities 7 days a week, which means that we work shifts with duty also during evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

We are looking for you with at least upper secondary education or other education that the employer considers equivalent. Ice machine operator training, property manager training, water treatment training or other skills in swimming pools, sports facilities and experience of similar tasks are meritorious.

We also look favorably on whether you have experience from the association life. You work independently and see yourself as a good problem solver. Of course, you have a good attitude and cooperate well with both visitors and colleagues. You are able to adapt easily to changing circumstances and have a flexible approach to work.

The work is carried out in close contact with various employees at our facilities and therefore you should have easy social contacts and be able to create trusting relationships. Your ability to cooperate and adapt to different working conditions is important. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, when hiring, an extract from the police's criminal record must be presented.

Within the framework of the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli and Finnish. Knowledge of one of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare municipality.

B driving license is a requirement.
