Business description

Sjöparksskolan is Gällivare Municipality's only municipal secondary school in the urban area and is located next to Sjöparken and Isborgen, the municipality's ice rink. The school has more than 410 pupils and about 60 staff. The school has recently been rebuilt to meet the requirements of a secondary school and is modern in design. The school is working hard to design good learning environments, peer learning and to design sustainable structures to prepare students for the future. School caretakers and recreation leaders work at the school to support students. The school also has school nurses and school counselors on site at the unit. There are also special educators, social educators, study and vocational counselors. Two key educators are working to develop our digital skills and the school has a house substitute who works to cover short-term absences. The school is divided into year-based teams led by team leaders. The leaders meet with the principal every week. The pedagogical development track is led by first teachers, who meet weekly with the principal. The school has two administrators to support the administrative work. In the academic year 2025/2026, you work together with advisors appointed by the school inspection to develop the school's work.

Duties

Your duties as deputy principal largely involve having a close leadership to staff and students. There is a focus on the school's core processes and you should be able to be executive and operational under a delegated responsibility from the principal. You are involved in organizational changes, distribution of services and scheduling. The scope of work includes grades 7-9 and other horizontal tasks related to work environment and administration. Your responsibilities include management of daily activities, staff, pupils and follow-up. You are part of the student health work. The assignment as deputy principal includes collaboration with the municipality's school management group, other authorities, guardians, other administrations in Gällivare municipality, etc.

Together with the others in the management group, you are responsible for educational development work. In all areas of responsibility, it is important that you see your area of responsibility as part of the whole school and have a long-term and unpretentious approach.

Qualifications

We would like you to have management experience from school activities. Your own educational background should be at academic level and in the field of education. We expect you to have your own experience of working as a teacher in schools. We are looking for you who are committed, responsible and have the ability to work independently as well as in a team. You will meet and interact with many different people, which requires good communication skills and social agility. To succeed in this role, you need to enjoy working with others and be able to take different people's perspectives on various issues that you encounter in your everyday life and in development work. You should also be a clear leader who has the ability to create good cohesion in a working group and get thoughts and ideas heard in decision-making processes. As an assistant principal, you are motivated by working towards goals and translating them into concrete, goal-oriented work together with your colleagues. You should have the ability to see connections, to reason your way to possible solutions with limited/complex information. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Within the framework of the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare municipality.
