Job Description

No two days are alike at a fire station in the inland region of northern Sweden. If you’re interested in working on challenging and varied tasks in accident prevention, emergency response preparation, and damage mitigation, apply for this job!

Major industrial initiatives are underway in northern Sweden, including in the municipality of Gällivare, which presents exciting challenges for emergency services in the dynamic risk landscape we currently face. The Gällivare Rescue Service is part of the Räddsam Nord rescue management system, which includes a total of 19 member municipalities stretching from Nordmaling in the south to Kiruna in the north, home to approximately 500,000 residents. The department consists of approximately 30 employees. In addition, there are five volunteer fire departments and a contract-based industrial fire brigade. We are working to make Gällivare a safer and more secure place!

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include accident prevention, emergency response preparation, and damage mitigation tasks. Examples of duties include more complex inspections under the Act on the Prevention of Accidents (LSO), inspections and permit reviews under the Act on Explosives (LBE), handling referrals based on the Planning and Building Act (PBL) or other legislation, accident investigations, and response planning. You will also work with our hazardous operations (Chapter 2, Section 4 of the LSO) within the municipality of Gällivare, where you will have the opportunity to assess risks and prepare for emergency response scenarios involving, among other things, oxidizing products, aircraft, mines with both underground and surface operations, and hydroelectric dams. You will be part of the rescue department’s management team.

If you are deemed to have the appropriate qualifications and based on your personal qualities, you may be considered for the role of incident commander. You will be responsible for one of the rescue service’s operational areas within our overall operations, where you will drive development, monitor progress, and ensure quality in your area. We are currently seeking an individual to develop our post-incident learning initiatives to share knowledge and experience locally and within Räddsam Nord. Accident investigations are also part of this area of operations. During an interview, we’d like to know which area within the emergency services sector interests you the most. Collaboration within the municipal group, as well as in collaborative networks within Räddsam Nord, is a key part of driving the organization forward together in this collaborative area, where you may be part of project teams or other working groups that are formed.

Qualifications

We are looking for a qualified fire engineer; it is advantageous if you have already completed—or have a clear plan to complete—the RUB program.

We are also looking for candidates who have completed MCF training programs, primarily Inspection A, the Team Leader Management Course, or the Advanced Management Course based on MCF’s training structure, or other equivalent training that the employer deems comparable. It is advantageous if you have completed Supervision B, as this expertise strengthens your ability to quickly take on responsibility and contribute in the role.

Experience working in municipal emergency services is advantageous, as is experience with structural fire protection, safety issues, or civil protection. Great importance is placed on your personal suitability. We are looking for someone who is responsible, communicative, and has an eye for identifying opportunities for development. We also expect you to have the ability to work in a structured manner from start to finish, strong collaborative skills, and a creative streak. You should be well-versed in expressing yourself both verbally and in writing in Swedish and English. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.

The position requires a Class B driver’s license. The position may involve a security clearance.

Gällivare Municipality offers you

  • Wellness benefits in the form of strength training/group training/Dundret
  • Wellness hour
  • Access to the workplace’s “Well-being Allowance”
  • Membership in GKFF (Gällivare Municipality’s recreational association)
