Job Description
No two days are alike at a fire station in the inland region of northern Sweden. If you are a confident and development-oriented leader who wants to take responsibility for leading staff, developing operations, and contributing to a safer community, then apply for this job!
Major industrial initiatives are underway in northern Sweden, including in the municipality of Gällivare, which presents exciting challenges for the emergency services in the dynamic risk landscape we currently face. The Gällivare Emergency Services are part of the Räddsam Nord emergency management system, which includes a total of 19 member municipalities stretching from Nordmaling in the south to Kiruna in the north, home to approximately 500,000 residents. The department consists of approximately 30 employees. In addition, there are five volunteer fire departments and a contract-based industrial fire brigade. We are working to make Gällivare a safer and more secure place!
Job Responsibilities
As the unit manager for the Damage Control Unit within the Rescue Department, you report directly to the rescue chief and are part of the department’s management team. You will be the immediate supervisor and will be responsible for the work environment of the employees in the Damage Restoration Unit (approximately 20 full-time employees plus volunteer fire brigades). Your role also includes operational and budgetary responsibility for parts of the rescue service’s overall operations (the areas of Operations, Operational Development, and Learning & Evaluation). You are responsible for managing, monitoring, and developing the operations within your assigned areas of responsibility. If you are deemed to have the appropriate skills and based on your personal qualities, you may be considered for a position as an incident commander.
Qualifications
You possess leadership qualities—you are self-assured, communicative, responsible, flexible, and driven by the development of both individuals and the organization. To be considered for this position, you must have experience in emergency services or a documented, thorough understanding of emergency services operations. This background is essential for you to quickly take on responsibility, make the right decisions, and contribute to a safe and professional operation. It is advantageous if you have completed MCF’s team leader management course, an older equivalent program, or an advanced management course within MCF’s training structure. Also advantageous is relevant training in leadership and occupational safety, experience from a previous managerial position with associated personnel and budget responsibilities, as well as experience working in municipal emergency services with both preventive and operational duties. You must have strong written and verbal communication skills in both Swedish and English and be comfortable using technical support tools. Great importance is placed on your personal qualities. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is considered an asset when applying for employment with Gällivare Municipality.
