Description of Operations

The municipality’s overarching support and development function primarily encompasses the areas of human resources, finance, procurement, IT, information/communication, administrative services, and growth and attractiveness. This function is responsible for ensuring the municipality’s ability to meet the challenges of the future, with digitalization, communication, and operational development as three priority areas for strengthening. The department reports to the Municipal Executive Board.

Job Responsibilities

Would you like to help shape Gällivare Municipality’s workplace environment? As an HR consultant specializing in the work environment, you will be part of our 15-person HR team, which consists of HR consultants, payroll and pension specialists, and PA system developers. The department works together to provide managers with the best possible conditions to carry out their work. You will have the opportunity to drive, lead, develop, and work proactively in the overall field of occupational health and safety, with a focus on operational support for both managers and employees. It is important that you can switch between strategic and operational focuses, and that you can easily navigate between both the organizational and individual levels.

The role involves close collaboration with colleagues on the team and in other departments, but you also need to be independent and able to drive your own projects and initiatives. Some examples of job responsibilities:

  • Provide expert support in the areas of workplace safety, health, and rehabilitation, including the organizational and social work environment.
  • Lead, develop, and support managers in their work related to workplace safety.
  • Lead and develop preventive efforts, as well as initiate and oversee the implementation and follow-up of various health promotion initiatives and wellness activities.
  • Lead, plan, and conduct training sessions on workplace environment, health, and rehabilitation, primarily for managers and safety representatives.

Manage contracts and procurement related to systems and services connected to occupational health services. Monitor laws and AFS regulations and, where applicable, implement changes. Serve as the point of contact for external parties such as occupational health services, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and the Swedish Work Environment Authority. The position is varied and offers many interesting opportunities in a culture that is open and inclusive and characterized by a high level of commitment. This is a role where you’ll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of occupational health and safety areas.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with a college degree in HR, occupational health and safety, or a related field deemed equivalent by the employer. We’d like you to have a few years of experience in preventive occupational health and safety work and in providing support for complex cases. Experience with similar work in municipal operations is a plus.

As a person, you need to be able to independently drive processes, think analytically, build trust, and have the ability to engage with people in their specific situations. You’re skilled at building strong relationships, fostering collaboration, and working with others, and you’re also an effective communicator with a strong drive to advance the municipality’s occupational health and safety efforts. As a support to managers, you need to be pedagogical in your approach to explaining and training, with a strong ability to listen, identify needs, highlight individuals’ resources, and propose solutions that drive progress in workplace safety and health efforts. We place great emphasis on collaboration skills and personal qualities. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is considered a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.
