Description of Operations

The Social Services Administration carries out activities mandated by law in accordance with the Social Services Act, the Health and Medical Care Act, and the Act on Support and Services for Certain Persons with Disabilities. Based on democratic principles, the Social Services Administration shall promote people’s economic and social security, equality in living conditions, and active participation in society, while also providing quality care, health and medical care, and services to older adults, people with disabilities, and others who need societal support. The Social Services Administration consists of the Assistance Unit, the Department of Care and Nursing, the Department of Functional Support, the Department of Home Care, the Management Support Organization, and the Health and Medical Care Organization. As a nurse in the Health and Medical Care Organization, you will be part of our team of approximately 30 nurses distributed across various areas and shifts.

Job Responsibilities

As a registered nurse, you will be responsible for health and medical care services in our short-term care unit. You will share responsibility with a fellow nurse for the 18 beds currently available in the short-term care unit. The role involves coordinating high-quality care and support, where you will be part of the team working with the individual patient and their family. The role also includes providing guidance to the work team. The short-term care unit works closely with an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, nursing assistants, and the attending physician at the health center. The short-term care unit accommodates individuals who, for one reason or another, are unable to stay at home at the moment. This may be due to, for example, illness, fractures, palliative care, or recovery following a hospital stay. A stay in the short-term care unit is always temporary, which for you as a nurse means coordinating admissions and discharges. A social services decision is required to secure a spot in the short-term care unit. You will be part of a larger group of nurses assigned to different areas. We work closely with colleagues, other units, and the municipality’s nurse in charge of medical care.

Qualifications

Registered nurse; additional training relevant to the position or experience in similar work is a plus. Great importance is placed on personal suitability. A Class B driver’s license is required. Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish.
