Description of Operations

Maria Preschool is located in central Gällivare, close to the library, swimming pool, and museum.

Maria Preschool has organized its operations into age-based groups. The preschool consists of two buildings with separate playgrounds. One building houses three classes for children ages 1–2. The other building houses five classes for children in age-based groups ranging from 3 to 5 years old. At Maria Preschool, we work in 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old groups, which means that the staff collaborate across departments and give the children the opportunity to explore and discover different learning environments.

Job Responsibilities

As a support staff member, you’ll be an additional member of the team, helping the preschool meet the needs of children requiring special support. You will work closely with a child who requires tube feeding and thus provide vital support in the child’s daily life at the preschool. You will be part of the work team, and together you will create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing educational and learning environment for the children. The curriculum (Lpfö18) describes the work and education that the preschool offers the children.

Qualifications

We are looking for a qualified childcare worker with experience working with children who require special support. Experience with tube feeding is a plus (training and orientation will be provided). Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.

It is important:

• that you are familiar with our guiding document, the Preschool Curriculum (Lpfö18),
• that you are a confident and clear leader, take the initiative easily, are positive, and have faith in the children’s diverse abilities. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.
• that you value trusting relationships with children and guardians and that you have good collaboration skills.

You must submit an extract from the police criminal record for work in schools and childcare upon hiring.

Work Hours/Duration

Full-time, fixed-term position for the 2026/2027 academic year.  Appointment is contingent upon the position not being filled by existing staff due to redundancy or other reasons.
