On July 1, 2025, the new School Library Act will enter into force, which means that all students must have access to staffed school libraries. Gällivare municipality is therefore investing in developing our school libraries into creative, inclusive and pedagogically integrated learning environments.

We are now looking for two committed and innovative school librarians who want to be involved from the start and help shape the business in accordance with the new law. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in building something meaningful - for the students' future and the school's development. Gällivare municipality is in an exciting phase of development. Our schools strive to offer an equal education where reading promotion, source criticism and information literacy are natural parts of the teaching. As a school librarian, you will be an important part of the schools' student health work and educational team. You work in collaboration with both Gällivare public library and schools throughout the municipality. You will be involved and a driving force in building up Gällivare municipality's school library organization. We value collaboration, creativity, initiative and a student focus in everything we do.

Work tasks

As a school librarian in Gällivare municipality, you will:

• Be involved in building up school library activities according to the new law
• Work with reading promotion activities in collaboration with teachers and public libraries.
• Support students in information search, source criticism and digital literacy
• Responsible for the development, purchase and structuring of library media and resources
• Contribute to a safe and stimulating reading environment for all students
• Participate in networks and competence development in school libraries
• Collaborate with the schools' work teams and special educators/special teachers in the students' individual development.

The work may involve placement in one or more schools within the municipality. There is the opportunity to influence both the structure and working methods based on your skills and the needs of the schools.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• Degree from a university education in library and information science or, secondarily, a degree from another relevant university education.
• Experience working with children/young people
• Good digital skills and experience in information search and source criticism
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Interest in educational work and collaboration with school staff
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both orally and in writing
• B-driving license is a requirement

Additional:

• Experience with school libraries
• Knowledge of the school's governing documents
• Pedagogical education or teaching experience.

Strong emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

In the framework of the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli and Finnish. Knowledge of one of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare municipality.
