Description of Operations

Hedskolan is a 3-track preschool through 6th grade school with a customized elementary program. We have approximately 500 students and 100 staff members. We are centrally located in the municipality of Gällivare, within walking distance of the sports hall, swimming pool, and other facilities. Hedskolan has a well-established approach to collegial learning that encompasses all aspects of the curriculum. We are therefore able to offer continuous professional development for dedicated process leaders, PAX and IBIS instructors, and IT educators. The adapted elementary school is organized both by subjects/subject areas and by grade levels.

Job Responsibilities

As a special education teacher at Hedskolan, you will be part of the school’s special education team. You will help create opportunities where all students are given the chance to achieve their goals and where learning is experienced as meaningful, stimulating, and enjoyable. You will mentor educators on special education issues, build trusting relationships with staff, students, and guardians, and coordinate the interventions needed to ensure our students have the best possible conditions for development. Individualized education programs, additional accommodations, and organizational issues will be a constant focus of your work.

Qualifications

Certified teacher with advanced training as a special education teacher. You should be responsible, clear, and driven, and find it easy to build good relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Commitment, a solution-oriented approach, innovative thinking, and an interest in and ability to collaborate are qualities that the school values. Previous experience working with students with neurodevelopmental disorders is a plus. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

A criminal background check is required upon employment.

Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.
