Hello! Are you one of our new team members for two special education classes in the municipality of Gällivare? As a special education teacher or experienced elementary school teacher, we can offer you meaningful and varied work with excellent opportunities for professional growth. We are seeking a total of two teachers/special education teachers for our two special education groups.
The purpose of the special education group is to provide students with extensive special needs support the opportunity to develop academically and socially in a more structured and adapted learning environment. The group is intended to create better conditions for a quiet study environment, clear structure, and individual support. The special education group initiative is a temporary support measure. Our two new special education groups will be located at Tallbackaskolan and Hedskolan, our two largest K-6 schools. The staff will be part of the central student health services department. In Gällivare Municipality, there are a total of 9 elementary schools, both in the central town and throughout our rural villages. In addition to certified teachers, Gällivare Municipality’s elementary schools also have lead teachers, special education teachers, school counselors, school nurses, homeroom teachers, and student assistants/resource teachers. In grades 1–6, there are also class mentors at our schools, and in the urban area, there are school hosts in grades 7–9.
Job Responsibilities
As a special education teacher or an experienced teacher in a special education group, you will help create opportunities where all students are given the chance to achieve their goals and where learning is experienced as meaningful, stimulating, and enjoyable. You will work with teaching students in the group at both the individual and group levels, maintain frequent contact with guardians, and coordinate the efforts needed to ensure our students have optimal conditions for development. You will also maintain close contact with the students’ mentors and other teachers who instruct the students.
Qualifications
We are looking for a certified teacher for students in grades 3–6; special education training is a plus. You should be responsible, clear, and driven, and able to easily build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. Commitment, a solution-oriented mindset, innovative thinking, and an interest in and ability to collaborate are qualities we value. We also place great emphasis on personal suitability. Under the National Minority Language Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is a plus when applying for a position in Gällivare Municipality.
Employment requires a police background check and a valid teaching certificate.

Working hours/Duration
Full-time, The position is fixed-term until June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension. You will be offered a permanent position in the Municipality of Gällivare. Special education teachers and experienced elementary school teachers will be employed under the teachers’ collective agreement with vacation pay.
