Description of Operations

In the municipality of Gällivare, there are a total of 9 elementary schools, both in the central town and throughout our rural villages. In addition to certified elementary school teachers, Gällivare Municipality’s elementary schools also have lead teachers, special education teachers, school counselors, school nurses, homeroom teachers, and student assistants/resource teachers. In grades 1–6, our schools also have class mentors, and in the urban area, there are school hosts in grades 7–9. Our two new special education groups will be located at Tallbackaskolan and Hedskolan, our two largest K–6 schools. The staff will be part of the Central Student Health Services division.

As an experienced student assistant, we can offer you meaningful and varied work with excellent opportunities for professional development. We are seeking a total of two student assistants for our special education groups. The purpose of the special education group is to provide students with extensive special needs the opportunity to develop academically and socially in a more structured and adapted learning environment. The group aims to create better conditions for a peaceful learning environment, clear structure, and individualized support. The special education group is a temporary support measure. 

Job Responsibilities

As a student assistant in a special education group, you will help create an environment where all students are given the opportunity to achieve their goals and where learning is experienced as meaningful, stimulating, and enjoyable. You will work alongside the special education teacher to support the students in the group at both the individual and group levels; you will participate in communication with guardians and coordinate the support needed to ensure our students have the best possible conditions for their development. As a student assistant, you will be with the students in the group, supporting them during lessons, when moving between locations, and in their social interactions with other students. The group consists of students in grades 3–6, with a maximum of 5 students per group.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with experience working with young people, preferably as a student assistant or support staff member in a school setting. You should be responsible, able to make decisions, and be clear and driven in your work with our students. One quality we place great emphasis on is leadership skills and the ability to build strong relationships with the students. Your ability to collaborate and your commitment are essential for the group to feel secure and have the confidence to grow. Previous experience working in schools and training related to neuropsychiatric disorders (NPF) and challenging youth are considered a plus.

A driver’s license and a police background check are required for this position.

Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is considered an asset when applying for employment with Gällivare Municipality. 

Work Hours/Duration

The position is fixed-term until June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension. You will be offered a permanent position with Gällivare Municipality. As a student assistant, you will be eligible for vacation pay.

Monthly salary; we use an individual salary scale
