Description of Operations
Hedskolan is a 3-track preschool through 6th-grade school with an adapted elementary program. We have approximately 500 students and 100 staff members. We are centrally located in the municipality of Gällivare, within walking distance of the sports hall, the swimming pool, and other facilities. Hedskolan has a well-established approach to collaborative learning that encompasses all aspects of the curriculum. At Hedskolan, we are exploring various organizational solutions to ensure a positive work environment and that students receive the best possible education. Hedskolan has four after-school programs that work together. As a new teacher in Gällivare Municipality, you will receive guidance from experienced teachers. We also have a well-developed system of collegial and collaborative learning at our schools. Special education teachers, resource teachers, a school counselor, and a school nurse are on staff, and we work together as a team for the students’ best interests. Class mentors are now present in all classes at Hedskolan, and they focus primarily on the social aspects of the curriculum. Supervising recess and organizing recess activities are among the class mentors’ most important responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
A substitute teacher’s role is to step in and cover for absent staff at the school—for example, as a teacher, student assistant, or class mentor. You will usually follow a prepared lesson plan, and the work is very varied. You will cover absences in the lower or middle grades. As a substitute teacher, you will also work in the afternoons at the after-school program.
