Description of Operations

Mariaskolan is a preschool through 6th-grade school with approximately 130 students and an after-school program, located in a residential neighborhood near downtown. Mariaskolan is currently implementing the Gällivare Model, which involves having one lead teacher and one class mentor in each classroom.

Job Responsibilities

You will assist a student or a group of students who may have various needs, whether physical or social. You will work alongside the teacher in the classroom, helping to ensure that all students meet their learning goals.

You will also be present at the after-school program, either when it opens or after school ends

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a high school diploma or other education that the employer deems equivalent. As a person, you should have a present and responsive approach to students’ diverse needs, be a clear leader, and have strong collaboration skills. Training or experience in low-affect interaction is a plus. You are independent, responsible, and comfortable taking the initiative. We develop our work through pedagogical discussions and collegial learning, and we view the ability to support one another in embracing curiosity about new ways of working as a strength. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

A police background check is required prior to employment.

Under the National Minority Languages Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Proficiency in any of these languages is considered an asset when applying for a position with Gällivare Municipality.
