Business description

The Technical Department is part of the Public Works and Technology Administration and is responsible for providing residents with good service in the areas of water/sewage, streets, traffic, fiber and waste management. The position is within the technical staff, which consists of 8 employees. The work is often varied, sometimes challenging but always meaningful.

Duties

The position includes the following duties:

  • follow up the waste plan and its goals and key figures
  • communicate with residents, companies and municipal activities about the measures required to achieve the goals and thus a more sustainable and resource-efficient society in the waste area
  • produce educational and target-group-adapted information material and analyze statistics and thus improve the business
  • work with updating waste regulations according to current legislation and tariffs implementation of consultation processes
  • initiate and run various development projects that affect the entire waste chain. For example, prepare the business for upcoming legislative changes or improve services for our residents and businesses
  • conduct investigations in the field of waste and monitor the outside world
  • give lectures at, for example, schools / preschools / companies
  • work with associations, businesses and other stakeholders linked to waste prevention work, for example, organize clothing exchange days
  • hold in working groups together with other collaborating municipalities
  • preparation of procurement documents
  • contribute with knowledge in the field of waste within Gällivare Municipality
  • prepare service letters and respond to questions from committees and municipal residents

Qualifications

Are you the person we are looking for? You have a college or university degree in the field of environment or other training and experience that can be considered equivalent. In the role, it is important to feel comfortable having many contacts, meeting people and be motivated by working in a service and customer-oriented way. You should have the ability to work independently as well as in a team and you are driven by being involved in developing the business. As a person, you are driven, structured and have good computer skills. Experience of working with investigations of cases, both simple and more complex. It is an advantage if you have experience of the tasks described above and have worked in a politically controlled organization. An advantage is if you have worked with environmental and waste legislation. You have a genuine interest in waste management and are driven to contribute to sustainable social development. B driving license is required.

In the framework of the National Minority Language Act, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli and Finnish. Knowledge of one of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare municipality.
