Gjøvik and Land Child Welfare Service/Gjøvik Intermunicipal Child Welfare Emergency Unit has a full-time (100%) permanent position available as a child welfare consultant in the intake/emergency unit.

We need more talented people to build our team dedicated to children and families. We are an intermunicipal child welfare service with Gjøvik as the host municipality for Gjøvik, Nordre Land, and Søndre Land municipalities. Our office is located at Gjøvik’s Tak, Øverby. We also serve as the host municipality for the intermunicipal emergency child welfare service for Gjøvik, Nordre and Søndre Land, as well as Østre and Vestre Toten and Gran municipalities.

The service currently consists of approximately 60 employees, making it the largest child welfare service in the Innlandet region. Our size and structure give us a unique opportunity to offer specialization and in-depth professional expertise in various areas of case management, as well as strong support functions.

In the Intake and Emergency Child Welfare Unit, we need someone who is confident and professional when interacting with children and families who need help right now. We’re looking for someone with a strong work ethic and flexibility regarding both job responsibilities and work hours. You seek effective solutions in challenging work situations. In the Intake and Child Welfare On-Call Unit, you’ll work rotating shifts consisting of day shifts, evening shifts with on-call duty (on-call at home), and combination shifts every third weekend that include both active shifts and on-call duty. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Case management in accordance with the Child Welfare Act
  • Guide and assist children and families in crises and emergency situations
  • Answering and handling inquiries on the on-call phone
  • Providing guidance to partner agencies
  • Collaborating with other agencies
  • Initiating and implementing necessary emergency measures
  • Testify before the Child Welfare and Health Board and other judicial bodies as needed
  • Participate in the service’s development efforts to establish an open and accessible child welfare service
  • Contribute to professional development
Qualifications:
  • Requires a three-year college degree in social work (child welfare/social work)
  • Another relevant bachelor’s degree with relevant practical experience may substitute for the requirement of a bachelor’s degree in child welfare/social work
  • Relevant continuing education totaling at least 30 credits or a master’s degree is desirable
  • Experience in frontline child welfare or on-call child welfare duty is desirable
  • Experience with emergency response from other relevant services for children and youth may also be considered
  • Competence and/or experience in the use of digital tools and work processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Personal suitability and team dynamics will be emphasized when weighing qualifications and personal qualities. Seniority will not be given significant weight.
  • Class B driver’s license
  • Valid police clearance required
