Description of the workplace:

Gjøvik Art and Culture School is an active and development-oriented cultural school with a high academic level and with a wide range of music and visual arts. The school has approx. 440 students and 25 employees, and plays a central role in the city's cultural life.

The teaching includes classical music, rhythmic genres, visual art and various adapted offers in music, stage, dance and visual art. Interaction, projects and events are an important part of the school's activities, with offerings such as an orchestra, big band, interaction groups, course week, Christmas concert and summer festival.

The school has ambitions for further development and growth, with a particular focus on recruitment and expansion of its offerings.
Gjøvik has a rich cultural life and a strong position as a city of music, with a symphony orchestra, band and choir environment. Musikk i Innlandet has its headquarters in the town.

The culture school works under the vision "A good place to be, a good place to learn", and is currently located in "Telegrafen" in the center of Gjøvik. At the same time, plans are being worked on for a new cultural center, where the culture school is intended to have central premises.

Description of the position:

Gjøvik Art and Culture School is developing, and we are now looking for a structured and committed assistant principal who will help to strengthen the daily operations and further develop the school.
The position is newly created and involves an adjustment of how we organize administration and management at the cultural school.
As assistant principal, you will be a central part of the management structure and contribute to good flow in the operation, coordination and further development of the school. You will work closely with the principal and teaching inspector, and play a key role in further developing the cultural school's offerings in line with the framework plan and local goals.
The position is advertised as permanent in 60-80%, and applicants are asked to state the desired position percentage. The working hours are mainly during the day Monday to Friday, but some work in the afternoon, evening and weekend must be expected in connection with projects and events.

The work tasks may include:
  • planning and coordination of educational offerings and daily operations, including good utilization of staff resources and working hours
  • communication with students, parents and partners
  • administrative follow-up of the school's digital systems
  • contribute to structure, planning and development of efficient and future-oriented work processes
  • planning, coordination and implementation of projects, concerts and major cultural activities in collaboration with teachers and other staff
  • contribute to development work and interdisciplinary art and cultural initiatives at the school
The position is broad, and we are keen to find a candidate with relevant expertise and development potential - not necessarily someone who fully meets all the points. Tasks and areas of responsibility will be adapted and distributed based on the competence of the person hired.Qualifications:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • relevant higher education, preferably in the arts, education, administration or management. Long and relevant experience can compensate for the educational requirement.
  • experience from work in a cultural school, school or other relevant business
  • good system understanding and thrives on working in a structured and systematic way
  • good digital skills and the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new digital systems
  • good written and oral presentation skills

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • experience in planning, coordinating or administering teaching or activities
  • understanding of resource planning and use of working hours
  • experience in project work, production or implementation of events
  • knowledge of municipal administration or public enterprise

An approved police certificate is required.
