We are looking for an analytical, solution-oriented and energetic school manager with good collaboration skills and a passionate commitment to children and young people.

Gjøvik municipality has just over 3,100 pupils in 12 primary schools. As Head of School, you have overall responsibility for ensuring that the pupils in Gjøvik School thrive and develop both academically and socially.

Gjøvik has worked systematically with school development for many years, and you will have skilled and dedicated employees on your team. The Head of School is part of the municipal manager's management team and leads a competent school office with experienced advisors in school development, skills development, learning environment, construction, analysis and ICT. There will also be an opportunity to recruit an assistant head of school.

Gjøvik municipality works value-based and based on the municipality's relationship model. The municipality also has its own learning environment team that works actively with guidance and training in the schools.

The upbringing sector consists of the services kindergarten, children and family, school and child protection. Gjøvik municipality has a strong focus on good interdisciplinary cooperation and is a BTI (Bedre Tverrfaglig Innsats) municipality. Interdisciplinary teams have been established at all schools. In addition, there are interdisciplinary teams at municipal level to guide and assist schools in complex cases.

Tasks:
  • Ensure high professionalism and good quality in the municipal primary schools
  • Continue and further develop the work on quality development in Gjøvikskolen
  • Ensure good internal control in line with applicable laws and regulations
  • Financial responsibility for the school service
  • Personnel responsibility for the school office and principals
  • Be a driving force for early, comprehensive and interdisciplinary efforts
  • Conduct and prepare cases for political consideration
  • Contribute to the holistic transitions in the educational process from kindergarten to upper secondary education
Qualifications:

  • Relevant higher education, preferably at master's level, primarily school-related
  • Experience in school management
  • Desirable with management education
  • Good insight into the school owner's responsibility, including laws and agreements
  • Knowledge of factors that promote academic and social learning
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration at system level
  • Good understanding of financial management, budgets and reporting
  • Clear and precise communication both in writing and orally
Personal qualities:
  • Professional integrity and a knowledge and development-oriented way of working
  • Ability to empower employees and lead through others
  • Good collaboration skills and an appreciative attitude
  • Ability to see the big picture and context
  • Structured, planning and good at prioritizing
  • Personal suitability will be given great weight
