Description of the workplace:

Nordbyen Care Center is located in the northern part of Gjøvik and offers a beautiful view of the city and Lake Mjøsa. The care center consists of two nursing home units, a shared living community, assisted living units, a day center, and home care services. There is an attached café/cafeteria available to patients, staff, and visitors. Free parking is available adjacent to the care center

Nordbyen Nursing Home is divided into two units, the first and second floors. On the first floor, there are eight beds in a secure, supervised unit, and on the second floor, there are twelve long-term care beds in a secure unit. Both floors are primarily for people with dementia. The unit has a strong professional focus on dementia care. We also have an ongoing collaboration with the geriatric psychiatry department at Innlandet Hospital, Sannerud.

At night, there is one team consisting of three night staff members who together care for both the first and second floors. Duties will rotate between the first and second floors.

Job Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities include, among other things:

  • Safeguarding the patient’s needs and rights in collaboration with the patient and their family

  • Medication management

  • Documentation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines

  • Mentoring/training of colleagues and students

  • Responsible for staying professionally current

  • On-call duties involving the coordination of work tasks and staff resources while on call. 

Qualifications:

  • Valid license as a healthcare assistant/nursing aide. 

  • Good communication skills in Norwegian, both oral and written. Minimum B2 level required. 

  • General IT skills; familiarity with Gerica is a plus.

  • A clean criminal record must be presented prior to starting the position. 

Personal qualities:

  • Professional commitment and motivation to provide high-quality care to people with dementia are essential. 

  • Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Flexibility in handling various situations as well as variation and change in tasks. 

  • Personal suitability and relevant work experience will be given significant weight.
