Description of the workplace:

Haugtun Care Center is located in downtown Gjøvik and consists of four nursing home units, in addition to home care services and specialized services. The care center also serves as the base for Gjøvik Municipality’s own nursing home physicians.

Ward 2AB is a short-term and respite care ward with 13 beds that provides services to people with dementia. The unit has both nurses and healthcare assistants—with and without advanced training—who are committed to ensuring a good quality of life for the patients. The unit works closely with a physician and has physician visits two days a week.

Job Responsibilities:

The duties are varied and exciting, with a primary focus on nursing care, cognitive assessments, end-of-life care, patient participation, working with family members, and medication management. 

The duties include, among other things, the following:

  • Serving as the primary nurse for one or more patients in collaboration with other staff members. 

  • Technical nursing tasks, specimen collection, and responsibility for physician visits, as well as other referrals to a physician or the emergency medical service. 

  • Environmental care with a focus on the individual patient.

  • Monitoring and updating tasks via patient boards.

  • Following procedures in accordance with the patient care pathway.

  • Use of assessment tools.

  • Work with family members.

  • Medication management.

  • Responsibility for chairing and participating in meetings.

  • Mentoring and instructing colleagues, students, and trainees.

  • Striving for good collaboration with patients, family members, and colleagues. 

  • Documentation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Responsibility for professional development and innovation within the field and in one’s work. 

  • Contribute to maintaining a positive work environment.

  • On-call duties.

  • Stay professionally up to date. 

The position involves a 2-shift rotation with work every third weekend.

Qualifications:
  • License as a Norwegian registered nurse.

  • Relevant continuing education and experience with this patient population are desirable but not required.

  • Possess strong ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently.

  • A positive attitude toward work and colleagues.

  • Interest in and commitment to professional development. 

  • Be positive, willing to persevere through change processes, and a good team player.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good computer skills. 

  • Interest in assistive technology.

  • Personal suitability is emphasized.

  • A valid police background check is required.
