Description of the workplace:

Haugtun Care Center is centrally located in the city of Gjøvik. The care center includes four nursing home units, 24-hour staffed assisted living facilities, bases for home care and specialized services, as well as physical and occupational therapy services.

This position is based in Unit 3CD on the 3rd floor of Haugtun Care Center.

3CD consists of a somatic short-term care unit with 16 short-term care beds and 4 municipal acute care beds (KAD). The primary target group is somatic patients in need of active treatment and medical follow-up. The unit admits patients ready for discharge from the hospital, and there is a wide range of diagnoses and functional levels among the patients. The job duties are also varied, and you must enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced unit. KAD beds (municipal acute inpatient beds) are emergency care beds where the on-call service and primary care physicians admit patients for shorter courses of treatment as an alternative to hospitalization.

Shift Schedule: Split shift schedule with work every third weekend. There is flexibility regarding the weekend schedule, and you may be offered long shifts on weekends and/or the option to work an extra weekend every 12 weeks in exchange for a functional allowance to compensate for the increased weekend workload.

Job Responsibilities:

The job responsibilities are varied and exciting, with a primary focus on medical care, rehabilitation, and palliative care

  • Nursing responsibility for patients and daily tasks in the ward

  • Documentation, updating the Gerica and IPLOS/ADL systems

  • Observation, specimen collection, and technical nursing tasks

  • Performing medical procedures and using various assessment tools

  • Working efficiently and purposefully with patient care pathways

  • Coordinating and planning patient admissions and discharges

  • Manage medication administration and be responsible for physician visits

  • May be assigned additional duties or serve as a point of contact for specialized areas, such as assistive technology, rehabilitation, etc.

  • May be assigned on-call duties and shift leadership responsibilities, which involve coordinating work tasks and staff resources, as well as overall nursing responsibility

  • Responsible for intake, case management, and follow-up of patients in the KAD unit (municipal acute inpatient unit).

  • Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Ensuring high-quality palliative and end-of-life care

  • Mentoring and training of new employees, trainees, and students

  • Patient safety, patient participation, and work with family members

  • Representing the department in meetings, such as interdisciplinary meetings and collaboration meetings with patients and their families

  • Participating in professional development/teaching and taking responsibility for staying professionally current

Qualifications:
  • Valid nursing license required. Relevant continuing education is desirable.
