Job Location Description:

Gjøvik Municipality has 35 general practitioner positions and has one vacant position at the Gjøvik Medical Center.

The Gjøvik Medical Center has 8 general practitioner positions, 1 of which is vacant. The position will become available for appointment in November 2026.

The medical centers are 8.2 medical centers, meaning that Gjøvik Municipality operates the medical offices and is responsible for the support staff as their employer.

The medical centers use CGM Journal.

There is no transfer of patient list (goodwill) associated with the practice. Self-employed physicians pay office rent.

The patient list currently consists of 1,100 patients.

For specialists in general practice or certified general practitioners, self-employment is the general rule.

For doctors in residency / ALIS doctors, a fixed salary with a share of revenue may be considered as an alternative to self-employment.

Job responsibilities:
  • Practice as a primary care physician / general practitioner in accordance with the law.
  • Participation in the Gjøvik municipal on-call service.
  • Participation in the rotating daytime on-call service for Gjøvik municipality, with on-call duties distributed among all the municipality’s primary care physicians.
Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be specialists in general practice, licensed general practitioners, or residents in general practice (LIS3 / ALIS).
  • Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken Norwegian, hold a Norwegian medical license with authorization to work in a general practitioner’s practice and at the emergency medical service, and be eligible for reimbursement from Helfo.
  • Knowledge of the Norwegian healthcare system and Norwegian health legislation.
  • Emphasis will be placed on professional qualifications, motivation, and personal qualities/suitability.
  • Two references must be provided. Eligible applicants can expect to be invited for an interview.
  • A police clearance certificate must be submitted prior to starting the position.

Gjøvik Municipality offers:

  • A general practice environment with many young doctors in the ALIS program and experienced specialists in general medicine.
  • Extensive experience and a well-established training program for the specialization track, including guidance and supervision.
  • The municipality has a dedicated position for a senior physician responsible for training.
  • For those running a business, a compensation scheme is available for absences due to a child’s illness.
Exceptions to public disclosure must be justified:

Gjøvik Municipality practices a policy of greater transparency, cf. Section 11 of the Public Administration Act.
