Description of the workplace:The Gjøvik Municipal Legal Department is a professional team consisting of three attorneys, one associate attorney, and one legal advisor. As the municipality’s in-house legal office, we provide legal assistance to the entire organization, including political bodies, intermunicipal partnerships, and companies in which the municipality holds an ownership stake. We handle a wide range of matters involving both public and private law, ranging from quick legal clarifications to comprehensive assistance in major projects and proceedings. The breadth of our work offers excellent opportunities for professional development and a varied workday filled with interesting legal challenges. One of our attorneys has now moved into a management position, and we are therefore seeking a skilled legal professional to join our team. Are you our new colleague?
Your responsibilities will include, among other things:
- Providing advice on individual cases to the municipality’s case officers and project managers
- Investigating legal issues
- Assessing conflicts of interest and requests for access to information
- Case management, including for the municipality’s appeals committee
- Regulatory work
- Assisting with the drafting and execution of contracts
- Handling any claims against the municipality
- Providing training
Key areas of law will include:
- Administrative and municipal law
- Freedom of Information Act
- Contract law
- Real estate / property law
- Alcohol legislation
- Tort law
- Health law
- Legislation related to daycare/schools
We are primarily seeking a person with a solid understanding of legal methodology and good judgment who enjoys working across a broad range of legal fields. Experience in one or more of the aforementioned areas of law is an advantage, but not a requirement. The duties will vary, and the successful candidate must be flexible and open to ongoing changes in responsibilities within the municipal attorney’s area of responsibility.
Qualifications and Personal Qualities:
- Law degree/Master’s in Law
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with various factual and legal circumstances
- Professional interest and a service-oriented attitude
- Good collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative

The workplace will be Gjøvik City Hall, but with the option to work from home.
